How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location: Glasgow, Scotland (with flexibility to work from Edinburgh)

Professional Status: Chartered Engineer - essential

    The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a well-established Building Structures team in Glasgow, with the flexibility to work from the Edinburgh office when required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Structural Engineer to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across Scotland and the wider UK, delivering innovative, sustainable and technically challenging engineering solutions.

You'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and conceptual design through to detailed design, construction support, site inspections and the assessment of existing structures. Projects span a wide range of sectors, including aviation, education, healthcare, housing, energy, transportation, industrial, defence and public infrastructure.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you'll have the opportunity to take technical responsibility, build client relationships, contribute to project delivery and support the development of junior engineers.

    Key Responsibilities

Deliver structural engineering design solutions from concept through to detailed design.

Undertake structural analysis and design using traditional materials, including steel, concrete, timber and masonry.

Contribute to feasibility studies, technical reviews, optioneering and the assessment of existing structures.

Support construction-stage activities, including site inspections, technical advice and design team meetings.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients and other project stakeholders.

Prepare high-quality technical reports, calculations and design documentation.

Support project delivery in line with agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.

Work in accordance with relevant BIM standards and digital engineering procedures.

Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practice.

Maintain and develop technical expertise, embracing new technologies and innovative design approaches.

    About You

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Chartered status with IStructE, ICE or another relevant professional institution - essential.

Strong experience in building structures design using Eurocodes.

Experience working with steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures.

Familiarity with structural analysis and design software; experience with Tekla Structural Designer, Autodesk Robot and Revit would be advantageous.

Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports.

The confidence to work independently, take initiative and contribute to project decisions.

A collaborative approach and an interest in mentoring less experienced colleagues.

An enthusiasm for digital engineering, automation and emerging design technologies.

Flexibility to undertake design, inspection and technical advisory work, including travel when required.

    What's on Offer?

The opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects across multiple sectors.

    A collaborative, multidisciplinary working environment.

Opportunities to develop technical leadership and strengthen client relationships.

Ongoing training, professional development and career progression.

Hybrid working and flexible holiday allowances.

A competitive salary and a comprehensive, flexible benefits package.

    Interested?

If you're a Chartered Structural Engineer looking for your next challenge in Glasgow, with the opportunity to work on diverse and meaningful projects while continuing to develop your technical expertise, we'd love to hear from you.
