Many pupils do best when the same familiar face turns up each morning. That consistency helps build trust and gives them a sense of safety, even on shorter placements.
We’re looking for SEN Teaching Assistants for specialist schools across Coventry and Warwickshire. Some roles are day-to-day cover and others are long-term placements, so we’ll be clear about which is which before anything is confirmed.
If you’re curious about why pupils behave and learn the way they do, you’ll get plenty of hands-on experience with this kind of work.
Responsibilities
* Support pupils with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language difficulties.
* Work 1:1 and in small groups, building trust with pupils, even when you’re only with them for a short time.
* Help pupils with learning, routines and emotional regulation, following the class teacher’s plans.
* Stay calm and consistent when pupils are finding things hard.
* Share what you notice with teachers and SENCOs, so support keeps improving.
* Settle into new classrooms and routines quickly and help keep them safe and welcoming.
Requirements
* At least 6 months’ experience as a Teaching Assistant in a specialist or SEN setting.
* A good understanding of common SEN needs.
* Excellent communication skills with pupils, colleagues and families.
* Reliability. Pupils and teachers need to know you’ll be there.
* Flexibility to take day-to-day cover, with long-term availability as an advantage.
* Full-time availability is an advantage.
* The ability to drive is an advantage, as some schools aren’t easy to reach by public transport.
What’s on offer
* Potential for regular day-to-day cover and long-term placements across Coventry and Warwickshire, depending on what schools need.
* Support from a dedicated consultant who’ll be upfront about what each role involves, including how long it’s likely to last and how to get there.
