How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Machine Shop Team Leader

    Department: Operations

    Reporting to: Production Supervisor

    Location: Dorset, UK

    Job Type: Full-time

    We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Team Leader to join our Bournemouth based Clients Operations team, within an established precision engineering and manufacturing environment.

    This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced machinist who enjoys combining technical machining expertise with team leadership. You will support the day-to-day delivery of production output, quality, training, problem solving and continuous improvement within the machine shop.

    You will work closely with machinists, production operatives and the Production Supervisor to ensure production targets, quality standards and customer requirements are achieved safely and efficiently.

    This Machine Shop Team Leader role, based in Bournemouth,l involve a balance of hands-on machining and team leadership, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC machinist, machine setter/operator or manufacturing team leader looking to develop their career.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and support a team within the machine shop, ensuring colleagues are trained, supported and deployed effectively.
    Take responsibility for on-time delivery, productivity and quality within your area.
    Set, operate and programme machining equipment where required.
    Manage labour, machinery, tooling and production priorities effectively.
    Ensure work meets engineering drawings, specifications, procedures and quality standards.
    Support inspection and quality control processes, escalating non-conformances where required.
    Maintain high standards of 6S, housekeeping and tooling control.
    Identify and resolve machining and production problems.
    Support continuous improvement, waste reduction, cycle-time reduction and productivity initiatives.
    Work towards achieving and improving departmental KPIs and OEE performance.
    Support TPM and lean manufacturing activities.
    Promote safe working practices and compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
    Deputise for the Production Supervisor when required.

    You will ideally have:

    Experience setting, operating and programming machining equipment within a machine shop or precision manufacturing environment.
    Previous experience leading or supporting a team.
    The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
    Good knowledge of tooling, feeds, speeds, work holding and machine capability.
    Fanuc programming experience would be an advantage.
    Experience or knowledge of OEE, TPM, 6S and lean manufacturing.
    Experience working to production targets and quality standards.
    Strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity.
    Good communication and computer skills.
    A flexible, self-motivated and proactive approach.
    The ability to motivate and work effectively as part of a team.
