London & Home Counties | New-Build Residential | Permanent
£60,000 - £70,000 + travel expenses + bonus
If you’re a Mechanical Project Engineer with an HNC / HND and proper residential project experience, this is a strong opportunity to join a growing mechanical building services contractor with a well-established name in the residential market.
You’ll be working for a dynamic, expanding business delivering mechanical packages across high-specification residential and mixed-tenure developments. The company has the structure and capability to deliver sizeable schemes, but still offers the visibility and direct involvement you get from a specialist contractor rather than a large corporate environment.
This is a permanent role, split between the office and live project sites across London and the Home Counties. It needs someone technically strong, organised and keen to develop within residential mechanical project delivery.
The role
You’ll support the delivery of mechanical packages on new-build residential projects, working closely with the Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, design teams, commercial teams, supervisors, subcontractors, clients and main contractors.
The work is expected to include plantrooms, heating, domestic water, public health, ventilation, smoke ventilation interfaces, risers, laterals, apartment fit-out, drainage, pumps, HIUs, testing, commissioning and handover documentation.
This role would suit someone who is already operating as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer or mechanically biased Building Services Engineer and wants to step further into project delivery.
You’ll need to be comfortable dealing with technical information, site coordination, procurement, quality, programme, subcontractors and handover.
What you’ll be doing
* Supporting mechanical project delivery across new-build residential schemes.
* Working with the Project Manager to manage programme, procurement, subcontractors, technical information, QA, commissioning and project close-out.
* Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions, RFIs, RAMS and installation details.
* Coordinating mechanical services including plantrooms, heating, public health, ventilation, risers, apartment fit-out, drainage, pumps, HIUs and associated systems.
* Helping manage subcontractors and supervisors to make sure works are installed safely, correctly and to programme.
* Supporting procurement schedules, material call-offs, technical queries and coordination with suppliers.
* Working with design teams, consultants, main contractors, site teams and internal management.
* Attending site meetings, progress reviews, coordination meetings and internal project updates.
* Tracking progress, identifying blockers and helping resolve site issues before they affect programme.
* Supporting quality inspections, snagging, testing, commissioning, O&M information and handover documentation.
* Maintaining clear records, reports, trackers and close-out information.
* Helping the commercial team with variation information, site records and change control where required.
* Maintaining high standards around health and safety, quality, communication and site discipline.
What you’ll need
You’ll need experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Assistant Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Site Engineer, Building Services Engineer or similar within mechanical building services.
An HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline is required.
New-build residential experience is strongly preferred.
You should have experience working on residential, mixed-use, apartment-led or high-specification mechanical building services projects.
You’ll need a good technical understanding of mechanical systems, including plantrooms, pipework, public health, heating, ventilation, risers, apartment fit-out, commissioning and handover.
You should be confident reading drawings, dealing with technical submissions, coordinating subcontractors and supporting project delivery on site.
Experience working for a mechanical contractor, M&E contractor or building services contractor would be highly relevant.
A stable career history would be a strong advantage. This role will suit someone looking for a proper long-term move rather than a short stopgap.
You’ll need to be comfortable working from the office and travelling to sites across London and the Home Counties.
CSCS and relevant mechanical qualifications would be useful.
The right person
* You’re technically minded, organised and keen to take responsibility.
* You do not need to be the finished article, but you do need to understand mechanical building services and want to develop into a stronger project delivery professional.
* You can support the Project Manager, deal with site teams, chase technical information, keep records straight and help push the job forward.
* You’ll suit this role if you want a long-term permanent position with a growing specialist contractor, working on residential schemes where you can build proper project experience and progress your career.
* The salary is £60,000 - £70,000 plus travel expenses and bonus, depending on experience.
