How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Product Design Engineer to join a collaborative technical team, working on innovative products supplied to the UK market.

You'll enjoy a varied, hands-on role where your ideas and engineering expertise will make a genuine difference.

As a Product Design Engineer, you'll play an important role in the design, development and improvement of an exciting range of products, primarily within the lighting and electrical accessories sector.

Working closely with the Product Design Manager, Technical Director and international manufacturing partners, you'll take products from initial concept and design through prototyping, testing and successful launch.

This position offers an excellent combination of creative design, practical engineering, problem-solving and project ownership.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs, technical drawings and product specifications.

Develop product concepts using creative problem-solving and sound engineering principles.

Design components suitable for injection moulding and other manufacturing processes.

Build, evaluate and test prototypes to ensure products meet performance, quality and functional requirements.

Work closely with suppliers and overseas manufacturing partners to ensure successful production.

Review product samples, identify potential improvements and resolve technical challenges.

Prepare technical documentation, installation instructions, product specifications and compliance information.

Support the development of new lighting products, luminaires and other innovative product ranges.

Participate in design reviews and present technical solutions to senior management.

Ensure products comply with relevant UK quality, safety and regulatory standards.

Collaborate with colleagues across design, technical, quality and manufacturing departments.

We're interested in speaking with Product Design Engineers who enjoy combining creative thinking with practical engineering expertise.

    Ideally, you'll have:

Previous experience in Product Design, Mechanical Design or Product Development Engineering.

Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, although training can be provided.

A good understanding of injection moulding, plastics and manufacturing processes.

Strong mechanical engineering principles and practical problem-solving skills.

The ability to produce clear technical drawings and specifications.

Familiarity with IP ratings, product standards and regulatory compliance.

Experience working with overseas suppliers or manufacturers.

Experience with consumer or commercial product development.

Willingness to travel internationally, including to the Far East, when required.

    Don't have lighting industry experience?

That's absolutely fine! Our client is particularly interested in candidates with strong mechanical design and product development experience. Training and support will be provided to help you develop specialist product knowledge.

    WHAT'S ON OFFER?

Competitive salary of £35,000 – £43,000, depending on experience.
