How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Device Modelling & PDK Engineer

    The Opportunity
Wolviston Management Services are delighted to be supporting our client in the recruitment of a talented Device Modelling & PDK Engineer to join their specialist engineering team.
Our client operates within the highly technical semiconductor industry, developing advanced microwave GaN and GaAs device technologies for demanding RF and microwave applications.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong background in semiconductor device characterisation, RF/microwave testing and compact device modelling to contribute to the development of advanced Process Design Kits (PDKs).
Working alongside experienced design, development and engineering teams, you will play a key role in ensuring device models are accurate, reliable and optimised to support customer design requirements.

    The Role
As Device Modelling & PDK Engineer, you will be responsible for the characterisation, modelling and validation of compound semiconductor devices, supporting the development and continuous improvement of MMIC Process Design Kits.
You will work closely with device engineers, designers and technical teams to ensure models accurately represent device performance and provide customers with effective design solutions.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Performing and coordinating RF/microwave device characterisation to support device model development and validation.
Developing compact device models for GaN and GaAs semiconductor technologies.
Carrying out DC, pulsed I-V, noise, small-signal and large-signal microwave performance testing.
Generating and validating small-signal and large-signal device models and passive component models.
Supporting the development, enhancement and maintenance of MMIC Process Design Kits (PDKs).
Providing technical support to customers using PDKs and responding to design-related queries.
Working closely with design engineers to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges and incorporate feedback.
Supporting new semiconductor process development through device assessment and characterisation.
Producing detailed technical reports, documentation and supporting engineering information.
Providing specialist device characterisation expertise to development projects and operational teams.
Keeping up to date with emerging device modelling and characterisation techniques to support continuous improvement and technological competitiveness. About You
We are keen to hear from technically capable engineers with experience in semiconductor device characterisation and RF/microwave technologies.

To be considered, you will ideally have:

A degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics or a closely related discipline.
Practical experience in DC and RF/microwave semiconductor device characterisation.
A strong understanding of RF/microwave device physics and semiconductor device behaviour.
Experience performing RF/microwave testing and interpreting device performance data.
A sound understanding of small-signal and large-signal circuit theory and device equivalent circuits.
Knowledge and appreciation of compact semiconductor device modelling.
Programming experience, particularly within testing or engineering environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Desirable experience includes:

Experience working with compound semiconductor technologies, particularly GaN or GaAs.
RF on-wafer testing and semiconductor device measurement techniques.
Compact device model extraction and validation.
Knowledge of small-signal and large-signal device modelling techniques.
Experience using model extraction software such as IC-CAP.
Familiarity with RF/microwave CAD tools such as ADS or Microwave Office.
Programming experience using Python or LabVIEW within a test environment.
A higher degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics or a related discipline. Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone who is technically curious, proactive and passionate about semiconductor technology.
You will be a self-motivated individual who takes ownership of technical challenges, demonstrates initiative and works effectively to demanding project timescales.
A willingness to learn, develop new technical capabilities and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment will be essential.

    Additional Requirements
Applicants must be UK nationals and willing to undergo security clearance, in accordance with the requirements of the position.

    Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist semiconductor engineering environment where you will contribute to the development of advanced RF and microwave technologies.
You will have the opportunity to work with highly technical engineering teams, develop your expertise in device modelling and characterisation, and play an important role in delivering innovative semiconductor solutions.
    Interested?
If you have experience in semiconductor device characterisation, RF/microwave engineering or compact device modelling and are looking for your next technical challenge, we would love to hear from you.
