Location: Darlington
Salary: £75,000-£90,000 + £6,700 car allowance + package
Project Value: £100m+ with c.£25-30m M&E value
I'm currently supporting a major UK main contractor with the appointment of a Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to take the lead on the M&E commercial delivery of a major £100m+ commercial development in Darlington.
The project is a new-build commercial office for a government department, with the M&E package valued at approximately £25m to £30m. M&E installation is due to commence in early next year, making this a key appointment as the project moves into the delivery phase.
This is a senior role with genuine responsibility. You'll take overall commercial responsibility for the M&E package across the project, working closely with the wider project team and leading a small commercial team comprising of 1-2 Assistant Quantity Surveyors and a Quantity Surveyor.
The Role
You'll have responsibility for the commercial management and delivery of the full M&E package, working alongside mechanical and electrical engineers, planners, design managers, project managers and the wider site team.
Your responsibilities will include:
Taking overall commercial responsibility for the M&E installation
Leading and developing a small commercial team
Managing the commercial performance of the M&E works from pre-installation through to completion.
Working closely with M&E engineering and design teams to manage scope, change and commercial risk.
Managing subcontractors and supply-chain relationships.
Cost reporting, forecasting and commercial reporting.
Managing variations, applications, valuations and final accounts.
Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
Working closely with planning and project management teams to understand programme and delivery impacts.
Supporting procurement and ensuring packages are commercially robust.
Providing commercial input into project decisions and maintaining strong cost control throughout delivery.
About You
This role would suit an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor / Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor who has worked on sizeable building projects and is comfortable taking ownership of a significant M&E package.
You'll ideally have:
Strong mechanical or electrical experience as a QS within a main contracting or specialist subcontracting environment.
Experience managing sizeable mechanical and electrical packages, ideally £20m+.
Strong knowledge of subcontract procurement, valuations, variations, change control, forecasting and final accounts.
Good understanding of the interface between M&E, construction, design and programme.
Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with senior project stakeholders.
A relevant Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management qualification is desirable.
The Opportunity
This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who wants to move into a role where they have real ownership of the M&E commercial function on a major project, rather than simply managing individual packages.
You'll be joining an established M&E contracting business that employs more than 220 staff and with significant experience delivering complex mechanical and electrical packages. There is also scope for longer-term progression beyond this project and exposure to large, complex major projects.
Package:
£75,000-£90,000 basic salary
£6,700 car allowance
Pension
Private healthcare
26 days annual leave + bank holidays
Darlington-based project
Hybrid working (3 days site based / 2 days remote)
