An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Officer to join a well-established manufacturer operating within the metal processing sector.
This role will suit a hands-on HSE professional who enjoys working closely with production teams, driving safety improvements and ensuring compliance across a busy manufacturing environment. Previous experience within sheet metal, fabrication, machining or a similar metallic manufacturing setting is essential.
The Role
Reporting into site leadership, you will take responsibility for supporting and developing health, safety and environmental standards across the business, ensuring compliance while promoting a positive safety culture throughout the site.
Key Responsibilities
Promote safe working practices and challenge unsafe behaviours where necessary.
Provide practical health, safety and environmental guidance to managers and employees.
Complete and review risk assessments, safe systems of work and operational controls.
Conduct regular H&S audits and drive actions through to completion.
Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Support emergency preparedness activities including fire safety, evacuation drills, spill response and first aid arrangements.
Encourage employee engagement through safety meetings, reporting initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
Maintain COSHH records and hazardous substance inventories.
Control and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS), ensuring information is accessible to relevant personnel.
Lead preparations for ISO 14001 audits and manage resulting action plans.
Monitor waste management processes and ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
Work closely with operational teams, facilities and senior management to continually improve standards across the site.
About You
Minimum 3 years' experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role.
Previous experience within a sheet metal, machining, fabrication or metallic manufacturing environment.
NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
Good understanding of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
Experience carrying out investigations, audits and risk assessments.
Knowledge of environmental management systems and ISO 14001.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
Organised, proactive and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Practical, solutions-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills.
