How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Highways Supervisor - Scotland | Up to £55,000 + Company Van
    Salary: Up to £55,000, dependent on experience
    Location: Scotland - travel across various sites required, with occasional support in Northern England
    Contract: Full-time, permanent
    Working pattern: Days and nights, with working away required
    Are you an experienced Highways Supervisor looking to take ownership of highways works across Scotland? This is an opportunity to lead site teams, deliver varied infrastructure projects and play an important role in the continued growth of a well-established highways contractor.
    You will be joining a forward-thinking business operating across the highways maintenance and infrastructure sector. With a strong focus on safety, innovation and high-quality delivery, the company works across drainage, civil engineering, structures, technology and other specialist highways services.
    Your role
    As a Highways Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, planning and delivery of highways projects across Scotland. You will be working across drainage surveys, trenchless remediation, filter drain recycling and wider civil engineering activities on the strategic road network.
    You will be doing a hands-on role with regular site presence, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.
    You will be:
    ·Supervising site teams and coordinating the safe delivery of highways works.
    ·Ensuring works comply with SHEQ requirements, site rules and relevant highways standards.
    ·Coordinating shift start-ups, close-downs and changeovers.
    ·Supporting Construction Phase Plans, Project Management Plans and other project documentation.
    ·Delivering pre-start briefings, toolbox talks and relevant site training.
    ·Supporting and developing Operatives working across your projects.
    ·Acting as a key point of contact for clients and project stakeholders while on site.
    ·Attending site visits to support project development and asset assessments.
    ·Building effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and the supply chain.
    ·Ensuring work is completed right first time and meets the required specification.
    ·Monitoring project KPIs, programmes and deadlines.
    ·Coordinating staffing requirements, working hours and operational resources.
    ·Overseeing plant, vehicles, equipment and associated operational paperwork.
    ·Identifying quality issues and ensuring any work outside specification is addressed appropriately.
    What you will need
    To succeed as a Highways Supervisor, you will need previous experience supervising highways works and teams within live highways environments, including high-speed roads.
    You will need a strong understanding of drainage construction and relevant industry requirements and standards, including CDM 2015, MCHW, DMRB, CS 551 and CD 535. You will also need a good understanding of health and safety requirements alongside commercial awareness.
    Strong communication, organisation and leadership skills will be important, as you will be working closely with clients, colleagues, site teams and the supply chain.
    Relevant construction or project management qualifications will be beneficial, alongside SMSTS and an appropriate CSCS card. You will also need a full UK driving licence and competence using Microsoft Excel and Word.
    The role requires flexibility to work days and nights, travel across Scotland and work away when projects require it.
