How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Functional Safety Compliance Engineer

    Wotton under Edge

Up to £55,000 depending on experience

Renishaw’s Encoder Products Division (EPD) designs and supplies cutting-edge position feedback technology to the world’s precision measurement, automation, and manufacturing industries. It is highly likely that something you own contains a part or device that was manufactured with the help of one of Renishaw’s encoders.

EPD is made up of engineers, scientists and technicians all working together to produce market leading products for sale around the world. We start with cutting edge optical, algorithm and circuit designs, developing our own ASICs and sensors where required. We then use innovative mechanical engineering to turn our core technology into a range of desirable products for our broad customer base.

Working closely with colleagues in our manufacturing division, we develop manufacturing and assembly processes and software to deliver quality products by the hundreds of thousands that in turn, perform reliably and repeatedly to sub-micron accuracies for our customers.

We are now searching for someone to join the Division to provide advice and direct input around the functional safety and compliance of our products and systems.

    Responsibilities

The role will encompass the functional safety of two critical aspects, namely the Functional Safety (FS) assessment and qualification of saleable product (FS ‘components’) and the safety of in-house designed and used equipment.

    Product specific:

    *

Re-certify FS rated products and maintain business certification.

    *

Support new product FS tasks and activities.

    *

    *

Provide guidance and training as required for product / project team FS actions, mainly explaining the FS procedure detail, actions and discussing system architectures.

    *

Review test plans for adequacy of coverage of fault insertion tests arising from FMEDA and FMEA.

    *

Review other FSM documents, recording findings as appropriate.

    *

Support current product FS issues and queries.

    *

Maintain a “SISTEMA” library, creating new entries when required.

    Equipment specific:

    *

Risk Assess equipment designs, identifying / defining safety system requirements.

    *

Work independently, or with design teams, to define appropriate safety system architectures when required, to achieve the target SIL and / or PL ratings.

    *

Assess designs of safety circuits and systems, to achieve the defined safety ratings. Generate related documentation and provide guidance and training as required.

    *

Undertake Machinery Safety assessments and undertake / manage all aspects of ‘13849’ Part 1 (& 2) and related Standards.

    *

Undertake / lead FMEDA/FMEA activities where required.

Assist with other aspects of product and equipment safety qualification, such as electrical, pressure and photobiological, and related documentation.

Train relevant Division and Group members as required, in the specialist subjects included in the job role.

    Key requirements
