How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Senior Whole Energy Forecasting Analyst (Contract)

šŸ“ UK Remote with Occasional Travel to Warwick

    šŸ“… 6-month Contract Opportunity

⚔ Energy Systems | Forecasting | Modelling | Net Zero

šŸŒ An exciting opportunity for an experienced Energy Analyst, Energy Modeller, Forecasting Specialist or Whole Systems Analyst to play a key role in shaping the UK's future energy system and supporting the transition to Net Zero.

We're partnering with a leading organisation operating at the heart of the UK energy sector to recruit a Senior Energy Forecasting Analyst.

This is a highly influential role focused on developing forecasting methodologies, whole-system modelling capabilities and strategic planning assumptions that will support regional and national energy planning across Great Britain.

    Why This Role is Exciting

This is far more than a traditional analytics position.

You'll be helping to build and develop the modelling frameworks that inform future energy investment decisions, decarbonisation strategies and regional energy planning across multiple energy vectors including electricity, hydrogen and biomethane.

The successful candidate will work with stakeholders across government, regulators, network operators and industry leaders, helping ensure future energy infrastructure is planned effectively and efficiently.

    What You'll Be Doing

āœ… Leading the development of forecasting methodologies and planning assumptions across multiple energy sectors and technologies.

āœ… Delivering whole-system modelling and regional energy pathway analysis covering supply, demand and future energy scenarios.

āœ… Developing modelling frameworks that integrate data from multiple sources and sectors into consistent forecasting outputs.

āœ… Analysing energy demand and supply trends across electricity, hydrogen, biomethane, heat, transport, industry and consumer sectors.

āœ… Leading technical engagement with industry stakeholders, distribution network operators, regulators and subject matter experts.

āœ… Researching emerging technologies, market developments, policy changes and modelling approaches to improve forecasting capability.

āœ… Translating complex modelling outputs into meaningful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

āœ… Supporting the development of integrated modelling architecture and data-driven decision-making frameworks.

āœ… Providing technical leadership and mentoring to colleagues within the wider modelling and forecasting team.

    What We're Looking For

    Essential Experience

Experience in energy forecasting, energy modelling, scenario planning or energy systems analysis.
Strong understanding of energy supply and demand forecasting.
Experience working within electricity, gas, hydrogen, biomethane, heat, transport or wider whole-energy systems environments.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience developing or working with complex modelling frameworks.
Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

    Technical Skills

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in some of the following:

    Energy systems modelling
    Forecasting methodologies
    Scenario analysis
    Python
    SQL
    R
    MATLAB
    VBA
    Advanced Excel
    Modelling architecture development
Data integration and data quality management

    Highly Desirable Backgrounds

⭐ Distribution Network Operator (DNO) experience

⭐ Gas or electricity network planning

⭐ Local Area Energy Planning (LAEP)

    ⭐ Energy consulting

⭐ Net Zero strategy and decarbonisation programmes

    ⭐ Whole systems modelling

    ⭐ Energy market analysis

⭐ Building integrated modelling solutions across multiple datasets and sectors

    Qualifications

Degree in a STEM discipline, Statistics, Economics, Data Science or a related analytical field, or equivalent industry experience.

    Ideal Candidate

You'll be someone who enjoys solving complex energy challenges, connecting large and sometimes fragmented datasets, and building models that inform real-world infrastructure and investment decisions.

You'll be comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment, translating business requirements into analytical solutions, and working with stakeholders from technical specialists through to senior decision-makers.
