How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SEN Teacher (Year 7/Formal Curriculum) - Guildford
Full Time Position | Immediate Start Available
    Location: Guildford, Surrey
Salary: Teachers' Pay Scale + SEN Allowance, dependent on experience

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced SEN Teacher to join a specialist school community in Guildford. This is a rewarding role for a teacher who understands how to deliver a strong, adapted curriculum whilst maintaining an environment that feels age-appropriate and respectful for secondary-aged pupils with autism.

This position suits a practitioner who holds high expectations whilst adapting their teaching intelligently, someone who understands that pupils working below age-related expectations are still very much young teenagers who deserve a curriculum and classroom that reflects that.

    About the Role:

You will lead a small Year 7 class of pupils with autism, working approximately 2-3 years below age-related academic expectations but very much pre-teens and young teenagers socially and emotionally. As a general class teacher, you will deliver a broad, appropriately adapted formal curriculum across subjects, challenging and engaging pupils whilst remaining sensitive to their individual regulatory, behavioural and social needs.

You will play a key role in supporting pupils through the transition into secondary education, a particularly important time for young people, helping them build confidence, establish routines and settle into their new school community. You will be supported by a dedicated TA team and a wider MDT including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

The school is committed to ongoing staff development, with access to specialist training, clinical supervision and a collaborative team environment where specialist knowledge is shared and celebrated.

    Key Responsibilities:

    - Plan and deliver an appropriately adapted formal curriculum across subjects to a small Year 7 class of pupils with autism working 2-3 years below age-related expectations
    - Support pupils through the transition into secondary education, helping them build confidence, establish routines and feel safe and settled
    - Maintain an age-appropriate, structured classroom environment that reflects pupils' social and emotional stage as young teenagers
    - Implement clear, consistent classroom routines that support regulation, behaviour and engagement
    - Adapt teaching and curriculum intelligently without unnecessarily lowering expectations
    - Use evidence-based autism-friendly teaching strategies to support access, engagement and progress
    - Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural regulation alongside their academic development
    - Work collaboratively with TAs, SLTs, OTs and Physiotherapists as part of a wider MDT
    - Contribute to EHCP reviews, pupil progress reporting and MDT meetings
    - Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and the wider school team
    - Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school-specific policies at all times

    About You:

    - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent - essential
    - Experience working with pupils with autism in a specialist or mainstream SEN setting - essential
    - Strong understanding of adaptive teaching and curriculum adaptation across multiple subjects
    - Confident in implementing classroom routines and positive behaviour support strategies
    - Understanding of regulation strategies and how to support pupils' emotional and behavioural needs
    - Experience supporting pupils through educational transitions - desirable
    - Able to maintain age-appropriate expectations whilst adapting delivery to meet individual needs
    - A calm, consistent and relationship-focused approach
    - Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    - Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils

We recognise this is a specialist position and warmly welcome applications from teachers whose experience may not follow a traditional path but who have the right knowledge, values and approach. The right SEN pedagogy and mindset matters far more to us than a conventional CV.
