How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Ever thought about becoming a Cover Supervisor?

If you're confident leading groups, building relationships and keeping young people motivated, your experience in sport or coaching could transfer extremely well into a secondary school setting.

Sports Coaches – Cover Supervisor – Derbyshire

We are looking for Sports Coaches to become Cover Supervisors in secondary schools across Derbyshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity for people from sporting, coaching, fitness or youth development backgrounds who enjoy working with young people and want to take their experience into education.

Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. You don't need to be a qualified teacher or a subject expert. What matters is your ability to communicate clearly, manage groups confidently and create a positive environment.

    The role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will support secondary schools when teachers are unavailable. You will supervise classes, follow work provided by the teacher and ensure students remain focused and engaged.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Supervising classes across secondary schools
    • Following lesson plans and work provided by teaching staff
    • Managing classroom behaviour positively
    • Supporting students with their learning
    • Taking registers and following school procedures
    • Encouraging students to remain focused and on task
    • Supporting students with additional needs where appropriate
    • Communicating with school staff regarding any issues
    • Adapting to different schools, subjects and year groups

You will not be expected to plan and deliver full lessons. Instead, you will provide the supervision, consistency and support needed to ensure learning continues.

Why coaching experience works so well

Great coaches already have many of the skills schools value. You will already understand how to:

    • Build rapport quickly
    • Motivate different personalities
    • Give clear instructions
    • Manage groups confidently
    • Set boundaries and expectations
    • Encourage positive behaviour
    • Keep people engaged
    • Stay calm under pressure
    • Adapt your approach when needed

    Your experience could come from:

    • Sports or football coaching
    • PE or sports-related degrees
    • Fitness or personal training
    • Youth work or youth development
    • Activity leadership
    • Sports development
    • Outdoor education
    • Youth or learning mentoring
    • Teaching assistant roles
    • Working with young people in community programmes, clubs or alternative provision

Experience working with secondary-aged pupils, SEN, SEMH, autism, ADHD or behaviour management would also be beneficial.

    Free Training and CPD

We provide exclusive free in-house training and professional development to support your transition into education.

Training is delivered by a qualified and experienced professional who is a trained teacher with a Master's degree in Education and a specialism in SEND.

    Training includes:

    • Free workshops
    • CPD training
    • Behaviour management guidance
    • SEND-focused training
    • Practical advice for working in secondary schools
    • Ongoing support from our team

    Who we're looking for

We're looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with young people and can lead a group with confidence.

You should be reliable, adaptable and able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.

If you've spent your career motivating young people through sport, you may already have the foundations needed to become an excellent Cover Supervisor.

You know how to lead. You know how to motivate. You know how to manage a group.

Now you can take those skills into secondary schools.

If you're a Sports Coach looking for your next opportunity across Derbyshire, we'd love to hear from you.
