The Position - 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant
A large, three-form entry primary school in Lewisham is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. You will be working closely with a KS2 pupil who requires consistent 1:1 support with their emotional and social development. The pupil can experience difficulties managing their emotions and behaviour and may become overwhelmed or unsettled during the school day. The successful Behaviour Support Assistant will be responsible for building a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil and providing consistent support throughout the school day. You will help the child recognise and manage their emotions, develop positive coping strategies and remain engaged within the school environment. A key part of the role will involve using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques, helping the pupil regulate their emotions and supporting them to return to learning when they become dysregulated. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the pupil receives consistent support. Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, emotional needs, challenging behaviour or additional needs would be highly advantageous. The school is looking for someone who is calm, patient and confident when dealing with challenging situations, with the ability to remain consistent and supportive when a child is struggling to regulate their emotions.
