How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Payroll Officer
    Central London | W1W
    £28,000–£35,000 per annum DOE
    Permanent | Full-time
    ASAP start

We are recruiting an experienced Payroll Officer to join a growing Central London accountancy firm.

This position has arisen due to continued growth and would suit someone who is confident managing multiple client payrolls and understands the pace, accuracy and deadlines involved in working within an accountancy practice or similar client-focused payroll environment.

You'll take responsibility for the accurate and timely end-to-end processing of weekly, four-weekly, monthly and annual client payrolls, while providing a professional and responsive service to clients and employees.

Previous experience within a chartered accountancy firm, accountancy practice, payroll bureau or similar multi-client environment would be particularly advantageous.

    What will you be doing?
As Payroll Officer, you'll manage payrolls from start to finish, including:

Processing multiple client payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines
Maintaining employee payroll records including tax, benefits and pension information
Checking and validating payroll data and investigating discrepancies
Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees
Processing statutory payments, PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions
Supporting auto-enrolment pensions, including NEST schemes where applicable
Preparing payroll reports and obtaining client authorisation
Issuing payslips through My ePay Window
Completing and submitting RTI returns to HMRC, including FPS and EPS submissions
    Completing year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds
Setting up new clients on payroll and pension systems
Ensuring opening payroll information is complete and accurate
Keeping up to date with HMRC guidance, payroll legislation and statutory requirements
Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and working practices About You We're looking for someone with strong practical UK payroll knowledge who is comfortable taking ownership of multiple payrolls and working to regular processing deadlines.

    You'll ideally have:

Previous experience processing multiple client payrolls from start to finish
Experience gained within a chartered accountancy firm, accountancy practice, payroll bureau or similar environment
Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
Good understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, RTI, statutory payments and pensions
    Experience of payroll year-end processes
Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail
The ability to prioritise a busy workload and meet multiple deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Confidence dealing directly with clients and building professional relationships
A proactive approach to resolving payroll queries and discrepancies
Discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information The firm uses Staffology, so previous experience with Staffology would be particularly advantageous, although strong experience with other payroll systems will also be considered.

    What's on Offer?
£28,000–£35,000 per annum, dependent on experience
    Permanent position
Opportunity to join a growing accountancy firm
    Varied portfolio of client payrolls
    Client-facing role with genuine responsibility
    Supportive and collaborative payroll team
Opportunity to continue developing your payroll knowledge and technical skills
    ASAP start available Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys the variety of managing multiple client payrolls rather than working solely on one internal payroll.

You'll join a growing firm where accuracy and client service are equally important, with the opportunity to take ownership of your workload, build trusted client relationships and contribute to the continued development of the payroll function.

If you have strong end-to-end payroll experience and are looking for your next opportunity within a professional accountancy environment, we'd love to hear from you.
