About the Role
Are you passionate about helping learners overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their full potential?
As an English & Maths Skills Coach, you will work directly with learners to deliver impactful 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions in our dedicated workshop spaces. Working in close partnership with curriculum staff and lecturers, you will support students across all English and Maths provisions—including apprenticeships, employer partners, and sub-contracted learning—with occasional online delivery.
Approaching your work through a trauma-informed lens, you will make a visible, daily difference in helping learners secure the best possible outcomes in core subjects.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Dynamic Coaching: Facilitate 1-hour small group and individual coaching sessions (up to 24 hours per week).
* Drive Progress: Support lecturers by helping students make consistent, incremental progress from their starting points.
* Utilize Digital Tools: Guide students through digital learning environments, incorporating tools such as Century Tech (assessments and nuggets), learner scorecards, and Google Classrooms.
* Track Impact: Plan weekly sessions with management guidance and record learner interactions on the Coaching Tracker.
* Monitor & Support: Update Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and run targeted exam revision sessions.
* Build Employability: Develop students' digital literacy, confidence, and independent learning habits.
Who We Are Looking For
To be successful as an English and Maths Skills Coach you will have experience of working with young people, understanding barriers learners come across which affect their achievement. You will have had previous successful experience of operational delivery through effective planning and monitoring of performance against action plans and targets, particularly with young people within education.
You may also have proven experience of coaching / mentoring others to make successful progress in their learning and have facilitated group learning e.g. workshops or classroom learning.
You must hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or higher in one or both specialisms). It would be advantageous if you also obtained a recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 or higher and evidence of recent and relevant CPD and an online learning certification (i.e. Google Certified Educator).
Successful candidates must be able to support across both English and Maths.

Department Info
As a Skills Coach you will be based at an assigned campus and be line managed by the Campus’s Maths and English Deputy Head of Department.
