How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Accountant – Accountancy Practice

    Cannock | £35,000–£42,000 DOE | Permanent | Full-Time

    Ready to take more ownership of your clients and your career?

    If you’ve built strong experience within accountancy practice and are ready for a role where you can have greater client responsibility, develop your advisory skills and genuinely progress, this could be a great next move.

    We are working with a growing, forward-thinking independent accountancy practice in Cannock that is looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to its team.

    This is a firm that wants its accountants to do more than simply prepare year-end accounts. You’ll build genuine relationships with your clients, understand their businesses and have the opportunity to provide proactive advice that makes a difference.

    You’ll work closely with experienced senior members of the practice while taking ownership of a varied portfolio of SMEs and owner-managed businesses across a range of sectors.

    What will you be doing?

    You’ll take responsibility for a portfolio of clients and become a trusted point of contact, with responsibilities including:

    * Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders

    * Corporation Tax and Personal Tax Returns

    * Managing client relationships and dealing directly with business owners

    * Providing proactive support around tax planning, financial management and business growth

    * Identifying opportunities to add value beyond traditional compliance work

    * Some bookkeeping and VAT preparation/review

    * Liaising with HMRC and third parties

    * Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team

    * Working closely with senior colleagues on more complex client matters

    What are we looking for?

    You’ll already have solid experience working within a UK accountancy practice and be comfortable preparing accounts for SME and owner-managed clients.

    You’ll ideally bring:

    * Around 5+ years’ accountancy practice experience

    * Strong statutory accounts preparation experience

    * Good knowledge of Corporation Tax, Personal Tax and VAT

    * Confidence dealing directly with clients

    * The ability to manage your own workload and deadlines

    * Xero, QuickBooks and/or Sage experience

    * An interest in developing your advisory and client management experience

    You may already be ACA/ACCA qualified, approaching qualification, or qualified by experience. More important is your practical experience, client capability and ambition to continue developing.

    Why consider it?

    This is an opportunity to join a growing independent practice where you can have visibility, responsibility and a genuine opportunity to progress rather than feeling like another number.

    You can expect:

    * £35,000–£42,000, depending on experience

    * Clear opportunities for career progression

    * Ongoing professional development

    * Direct exposure to experienced senior professionals

    * A varied SME and owner-managed client portfolio

    * Greater involvement in advisory and value-added work

    * Supportive, friendly team environment

    * Modern, client-focused approach

    * Flexibility for occasional home working where circumstances require it

    * Potential to discuss longer-term flexible working once established within the firm

    If you’re currently working within practice and feel ready for more responsibility, better development and a clearer next step, I’d love to speak with you.

    All enquiries will be handled in the strictest confidence.
