How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is an exciting opportunity for a high-energy, commercially driven professional to take responsibility for developing new business and expanding the company's product offering across Scotland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new market opportunities, developing compelling value propositions and securing profitable new business lines, whilst also expanding existing customer relationships.

Candidates with previous experience within the metal stockist, metal distribution or non-ferrous materials sector will be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be based in Scotland, with regular travel throughout the territory.

    Hours: Monday – Friday

    The Role

    * Identify and develop new business opportunities across Scotland and targeted market sectors.

    * Develop and execute strategic sales plans to increase revenue and profitability across the territory.

    * Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and develop new revenue streams within established customer relationships.

    * Research, map and convert new customer opportunities across untapped markets, sectors and geographical areas.

    * Develop and promote new applications and revenue opportunities for the company's expanding non-ferrous product portfolio.

    * Build and maintain strong, multi-level relationships with key customers and decision makers.

    * Identify commercial barriers and work collaboratively with internal teams to develop effective solutions.

    * Utilise internal technical, operational and commercial resources to secure profitable new contracts.

    * Conduct structured account reviews to understand customer demand, identify opportunities and forecast future growth.

    * Manage customer concerns and proactively resolve issues to protect and develop key business relationships.

    * Conduct pricing reviews to ensure competitiveness whilst maximising profitability.

    * Manage complex commercial negotiations through to successful contract closure.

    * Maintain accurate CRM systems, sales pipelines, customer records and site visit reports.

    * Monitor market developments and competitor activity to identify emerging opportunities.

    * Provide regular commercial reporting and market intelligence to support wider business strategy.

    Skills & Attributes

    * Demonstrable experience in Business Development / Sales, ideally within the metal stockist, distribution or non-ferrous materials sector.

    * Strong knowledge of non-ferrous material supply chains is highly desirable.

    * Proven track record of generating and converting new business opportunities.

    * Strong commercial and financial awareness, including understanding of margins, pricing and profitability.

    * Experience managing complex negotiations and closing commercial contracts.

    * Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

    * Highly self-motivated, results-driven and commercially focused.

    * Strong strategic thinking with the ability to identify and develop new market opportunities.

    * Excellent organisational and time management skills.

    * Ability to work autonomously whilst collaborating effectively with internal teams.

    * Strong attention to detail and accurate CRM / pipeline management.

    * Willingness to travel extensively throughout Scotland and attend the Leeds office as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Business Development professional to join an established and growing business and play a key role in expanding its presence across Scotland and developing new revenue streams within the non-ferrous materials market.
