How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Preparing survey reports, asset schedules, condition assessments and feasibility studies

Developing mechanical building-services designs from feasibility through to technical design

Designing heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water, drainage, heat-pump and control systems

Undertaking engineering calculations including heat-loss, heat-gain, ventilation, pipe and duct sizing and pressure-loss calculations

Selecting plant and equipment and preparing schedules, schematics, layouts and specifications

Supporting commissioning, snagging, practical completion, handover and aftercare

Supporting project management, contract administration or Employer's Agent activities where appropriate

Managing allocated work against agreed programmes, deliverables and fee budgets

Building professional relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders

Providing practical guidance to less experienced engineers and other team members

    Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements:

Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline

Experience inspecting installations and evaluating technical information

    Good communication and organisational skills

Ability to manage multiple live projects and work independently

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use

Willingness to travel regularly and undertake site-based work

Experience within education, healthcare or other public-sector estates would be advantageous, as would experience with low-carbon heating, heat pumps, decarbonisation projects, Revit or BIM.
