How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A well-established and growing construction consultancy is looking to appoint an Electrical Design Engineer to join its expanding M&E team. The consultancy works predominantly across the education and healthcare sectors, delivering a range of new-build, refurbishment and upgrade projects.

    The role will involve working across a varied project portfolio, providing electrical design, surveying and technical support from feasibility through to construction. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to gain exposure to clients, contractors and other consultants across a range of projects.

    Electrical Design Engineer Salary & Benefits:

    £35,000 - £50,000, depending on experience

    37.5-hour working week

    Electrical Design Engineer Job Overview:

    As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for undertaking electrical surveys, developing building-services designs and producing technical documentation for refurbishment, extension and new-build projects.

    The role covers a broad range of electrical services, including LV distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, data, CCTV, access control, photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging. You will also have involvement in construction-stage activities, including site inspections, contractor submissions, testing, commissioning and handover.

    The role will include:

    Undertaking electrical condition, asset, measured and feasibility surveys

    Assessing existing electrical installations and identifying defects, limitations and potential risks

    Developing electrical building-services designs for refurbishment, extension and new-build projects

    Designing LV distribution, small power, containment, lighting, emergency lighting and associated systems

    Carrying out load, demand, diversity, cable-sizing, voltage-drop and fault-level calculations

    Producing drawings, schematics, specifications, schedules and tender documentation

    Coordinating electrical designs with other disciplines

    Preparing and amending 2D CAD drawings where required

    Liaising with clients, contractors, design teams and statutory undertakers

    Reviewing contractor proposals, drawings, calculations and technical submissions

    Attending site and construction-stage inspections

    Supporting testing, commissioning, snagging, practical completion and handover

    Contributing to project management, contract administration or Employer's Agent duties where appropriate

    Managing allocated work against agreed programmes, deliverables and fee budgets

    Supporting and providing guidance to more junior members of the team

    Electrical Design Engineer Job Requirements:

    Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline

    Relevant experience within an electrical engineering, building services or construction consultancy environment

    Experience surveying, designing and coordinating electrical building services

    Experience undertaking electrical load and cable calculations

    Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 2D technical drawings

    Experience producing or coordinating specifications, schedules, drawings and technical reports

    Understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work and design coordination

    Working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, BS 7671 and relevant electrical standards

    Good communication and organisational skills

    Ability to manage multiple projects and work with a degree of independence

    Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use

    Willingness to travel to project sites regularly

    Desirable experience includes Trimble, Amtech or equivalent electrical design software, DIALux, Revit and BIM processes. Experience across education, healthcare or other public-sector estates would also be advantageous.

    The successful candidate will ideally be working towards, or interested in working towards, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
