How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Development Control Engineer
    Salary: £42,000 | Hybrid Working | Colindale

    Are you a highways engineer looking to take the next step in development control? We're seeking a Development Control Engineer to join a busy Highways Development Management team, playing a lead role in assessing transport infrastructure proposals and highway impacts of planning applications.

    This is a great opportunity to build your technical and stakeholder management skills while deputising for a Senior Development Control Engineer and gaining exposure to high-profile infrastructure schemes.

    What you'll be doing:

    * Processing highway applications and providing technical approval under S38, S184 and S278 of the Highways Act 1980

    * Handling Stopping Up applications, Highway Licences and Projection Licences under the Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act 1990

    * Advising on the highway impacts of new planning applications

    * Negotiating legal agreements with Legal Services and third parties relating to new and existing roads

    * Preparing cost estimates for highway works tied to development schemes

    * Representing the Highway Authority at meetings with developers, technical groups and stakeholder forums

    * Carrying out site visits to inspect works against approved drawings and specifications

    * Maintaining records of applications, financial income, bonds and deposits

    * Reviewing invoices, payment allocations and supporting budget monitoring

    What we're looking for:

    * Qualified to a minimum of ONC/HNC (Degree level or equivalent preferred) in Civil or Highway Engineering / Transportation

    * At least 2 years' post-graduate experience

    * Extensive experience managing S38 and S278 projects, including technical audits and adoption processes

    * Solid working knowledge of highways and transport policy and legislation

    * Understanding of health and safety legislation within construction

    * Experience supervising contractors

    * Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

    * Excellent customer care, and written and verbal communication skills

    * Full UK driving licence, with the ability to travel around the local area daily

    * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
