How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Coffee Van Barista

Location:  Maidenhead and surrounding area (mobile role)

    Salary:  £14.05 per hour

Vacancy Type: Bank Staff, 4,6 or 8 hours shifts

    Closing Date:  28th September 2026

    Help us launch something special.

Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service is embarking on an exciting new venture – a mobile coffee business serving exceptional, ethically sourced coffee at community events and local workplaces across Maidenhead and the surrounding area.

Every cup of coffee sold will help fund the specialist care and support we provide to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Barista to join us from the very beginning and play a key role in making this exciting social enterprise a success.

    About the role

This is far more than a Barista position. You'll be the face of our new coffee van, creating outstanding customer experiences while acting as an ambassador for Alexander Devine.

You'll supervise a team of volunteer assistant baristas and drivers, ensuring every customer receives exceptional coffee and a warm welcome.

You'll help establish the coffee van as a destination that people actively seek out – not only because of the quality of the coffee, but because every purchase helps make a real difference to local babies, children, young people and their families.

    What you'll be doing

Preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold drinks.
Delivering exceptional customer service that keeps customers coming back.
Supervising and supporting volunteer assistant Baristas during shifts.
Operating the till and handling cash and card payments.
Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and presentation.
Promoting the coffee van at events and within the local community.
Sharing the story of Alexander Devine and the impact every purchase has on the babies, children and young people we support.
Building positive relationships with customers, local businesses and community groups.
    About you

You'll be passionate about coffee, enjoy meeting people and thrive in a customer-facing environment.

We're looking for someone who has:

Previous experience working as a Barista in a busy coffee shop or mobile coffee business.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
A genuine passion for producing consistently excellent coffee.
Confidence supervising or supporting volunteers or colleagues.
A positive, friendly and proactive approach.
Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety requirements.
Flexibility to work at community events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
    Why join us?

This is a rare opportunity to help build a brand-new social enterprise from the ground up.

Every coffee you serve will directly support Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service, helping us provide specialist care, comfort and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across Berkshire and the surrounding counties.

If you're an experienced Barista who wants to combine your love of great coffee with making a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.
