How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client is seeking a Traffic and Highways Engineer for a contract opportunity supporting the delivery of a substantial highways maintenance programme. The role will focus on managing resurfacing and patching projects from initial identification and feasibility through to implementation, payment and completion of the guarantee period.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Track highways projects throughout their full lifecycle, from feasibility and planning through to delivery and completion
    Monitor the progress of resurfacing, patching and associated highway maintenance works
    Liaise with contractors and council officers to coordinate delivery, resolve issues and chase outstanding actions
    Manage requirements relating to street works permits, ensuring applications are submitted and approved for the required dates and times
    Maintain accurate project programmes, tracking systems and delivery information
    Provide clear updates to managers, senior management and elected members through written reports and management meetings
    Compile information to support Freedom of Information requests and other formal reporting requirements
    Monitor project payments, completion activities and guarantee period obligations

    Job Requirements:

    Experience in highways engineering, highway maintenance or a related local authority environment
    Understanding of resurfacing, patching and highway improvement works
    Knowledge of street works permits, application processes and lead-in times
    Strong project tracking, programme management and administrative skills
    Ability to liaise effectively with contractors, council staff and senior stakeholders
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present clear project updates
    Strong attention to detail and confidence working with data, records and reporting information
    Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records across a large programme of works
