How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Your new company

    A well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice based in Darlington is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Assistant to join its growing Tax Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional seeking a varied role with responsibility for managing their own client portfolio while working as part of a supportive and collaborative team.The role is primarily focused on Personal Tax, offering exposure to a broad range of tax work and ongoing professional development opportunities.

    Your New Role

    As a Tax Assistant, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and supporting them throughout the tax compliance cycle. Duties will include:

    Preparing Self Assessment and Partnership Tax Returns
    Liaising directly with clients and HMRC regarding tax payments, repayments and queries
    Managing an allocated portfolio of clients throughout the year
    Preparing 60-Day Capital Gains Tax Returns
    Supporting with Let Property Campaign disclosures
    Assisting with smaller HMRC tax enquiries
    Analysing rental income information for Self Assessment Tax Returns
    Reviewing and analysing client data for Making Tax Digital (MTD) submissions, particularly for property clients and smaller self-employed businesses
    Preparing P11D forms
    Providing excellent client service and maintaining strong client relationshipsWhat You'll Need to Succeed
    The successful candidate will have:

    A minimum of 2 years' experience working within a tax role, ideally within accountancy practice
    Experience preparing Self Assessment Tax Returns
    Strong numerical and analytical skills
    Excellent attention to detail
    The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively
    Strong communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients and HMRC
    The ability to work independently as well as part of a teamThe following would be advantageous but are not essential:

    Corporation Tax experience
    Knowledge of Sage Payroll software
    Experience supporting junior colleagues or traineesWhat You'll Get in Return
