How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Your new company

    Hays Accountancy & Finance are supporting a well-established and growing business based in Telford with the recruitment of an Accounts Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in finance and accounting, with full training, mentoring and study support available.Working as part of a supportive finance team, you will gain valuable exposure to key accounting processes and reporting activities, whilst receiving guidance from experienced finance professionals to support your progression towards becoming a qualified accountant.

    Your new role

    As an Accounts Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the finance function and assisting with the production of accurate financial information. Duties will include:

    Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including posting prepayments and accruals for review.
    Maintaining the fixed asset register, including recording additions, disposals and calculating monthly depreciation.
    Analysing expenditure across allocated profit and loss categories.
    Supporting the preparation of monthly forecasts and annual budgets.
    Completing daily cashflow reporting.
    Performing bank reconciliations.
    Reconciling sales and output VAT within the general ledger to VAT returns.
    Assisting with ad hoc finance projects and responding to audit, tax and other finance-related queries.
    Contributing to process improvements and supporting the wider finance team as required.The successful candidate will also participate in a structured development programme, with regular reviews focused on technical accounting knowledge, process improvement, communication skills, task ownership and professional exam progress.

    What you'll need to succeed

    To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

    A genuine desire to develop a career in accountancy and work towards a professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA or equivalent. You will either be AAT qualified (or studying AAT 4) or have a relevant Degree or have started CIMA, ACCA
    Previous finance experience
    Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
    Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
    Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders across the business.
    A proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement.
    The ability to take ownership of responsibilities and remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
