How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Electrical Quantity Surveyor – HV Substations – Glasgow

    Location: Glasgow / Central Belt
    Permanent | Full-Time
    Competitive Salary + Package

JL Renewable Solutions is recruiting an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of major Power & Renewables projects across Scotland.

Based from Glasgow, the position will work across HV electrical infrastructure projects, with particular exposure to substations, switchgear, cabling and associated construction works.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS to join an established project team and take responsibility for cost control, contract administration, subcontractor management, valuations, change and project financial performance.

Candidates with previous Power, HV or substation experience would be particularly attractive, although I'm also interested in speaking with strong Quantity Surveyors from electrical, M&E, utilities, renewables and major infrastructure backgrounds who can demonstrate transferable commercial experience.

    The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

    * Commercial management of electrical and infrastructure projects.

    * Preparing and maintaining project budgets, forecasts, BOQs and profit plans.

    * Producing detailed commercial and financial reporting.

    * Managing subcontractor accounts from appointment through to final account.

    * Preparing and assessing interim valuations.

    * Processing payment certificates in accordance with subcontract terms.

    * Preparing client applications for payment.

    * Managing remeasurement, variations, site changes and dayworks.

    * Identifying and managing material and labour escalation where applicable.

    * Supporting the preparation and negotiation of contractual claims.

    * Managing project change and ensuring commercial entitlement is properly captured.

    * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and reporting these to senior management.

    * Working closely with Project Managers and Planning Engineers to ensure progress and commercial reporting remain aligned.

    * Maintaining detailed commercial records to support project costs, changes and claims.

    * Attending and leading commercial meetings with clients and internal project teams.

    * Negotiating with clients, subcontractors and their representatives.

    * Supporting final-account preparation and agreement.

    About You

I'm interested in Quantity Surveyors who can demonstrate:

    * Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, engineering or infrastructure.

    * Strong knowledge of commercial and contractual project management.

    * Experience managing subcontractor accounts, applications, valuations, variations and final accounts.

    * Good understanding of contract conditions and their practical application.

    * Experience developing BOQs and managing project costs.

    * Strong change-management and record-keeping capability.

    * Excellent Excel skills.

    * Strong client-facing communication and negotiation skills.

    * Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively.

    * Good understanding of how construction programmes affect project commercial performance.

Previous experience across HV substations, Power Transmission & Distribution, electrical infrastructure, switchgear or HV cabling would be highly advantageous.

However, candidates from M&E, utilities, renewables, civils or other major infrastructure environments will also be considered where they possess strong transferable commercial experience.

A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline would be advantageous. Candidates combining a commercial qualification with an electrical or engineering background would be particularly relevant.

    What's On Offer?

This is an opportunity to join an established engineering contractor delivering significant projects across the growing UK Power & Renewables market.

You'll work within an experienced project and commercial team with exposure to major HV electrical infrastructure schemes across Scotland.

A competitive basic salary and wider benefits package are available depending on experience.

If you're a Quantity Surveyor, Electrical Quantity Surveyor or Project QS based around Glasgow/Central Scotland and would like to discuss the opportunity confidentially, please apply or contact JL Renewable Solutions directly.
