How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Overhead Crane Engineer

Competitive basic salary plus overtime, call-out payments and profit share

    Earning potential up to £75,000

Company van, iPad and career development

Towne Lifting is looking for an experienced Overhead Crane Engineer to join our Newcastle team during one of the most exciting periods in the company’s history.

Established in 1948, we are a family-owned lifting-equipment business with branches across the North of England. We are entering a significant period of growth, driven by investment in our people, engineering capability and Crane of the Future range.

This is more than a traditional crane-engineering position. Crane of the Future combines established engineering expertise with intelligent monitoring, advanced safety technology, data analytics and AI-supported solutions.

It is opening doors with blue-chip organisations across the UK and Europe, giving our Engineers opportunities to work on major customer sites, install innovative technology and contribute to the future of the crane industry.

    The Role

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will initially work across Newcastle and the wider North East. Your responsibilities will include:

Inspecting, servicing and maintaining overhead cranes, hoists and jib cranes.
Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical breakdowns.
Installing and supporting Crane of the Future technology.
Explaining completed work and technical recommendations to customers.
Identifying repairs, replacement parts and further work.
Offering industry leading services levels to all clients

Training can be provided in specialist areas where necessary.

As the business grows, there will be opportunities to support projects across the UK and Europe. This will suit someone interested in broadening their technical and commercial experience while working with leading organisations.

    About You

You should have strong overhead crane experience, an electrical engineering qualification and good electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability.

    You will also need:

    A practical, safety-focused approach.
The confidence to work independently on customer sites.
Clear communication skills and a professional manner.
The ability to remain calm during breakdowns and urgent work.
An interest in new technology and a willingness to learn.
    A full UK driving licence.

Technical ability is essential, but attitude and ambition are equally important. Our Engineers represent Towne Lifting while working with some of the UK’s leading organisations, so we need people who take pride in their work and want to develop.

    Drive and Ambition Are Essential

Towne Lifting have ambitious plans for growth. We are investing in innovative products, intelligent technology and new markets, and we want people who are motivated by that opportunity.

This role will not suit someone who wants to stand still, avoid responsibility or simply do the minimum expected. If you have no desire to develop, embrace new technology or contribute to the company’s growth, this is not the right position for you.

If you are ambitious, dependable and want to help shape the future of the crane industry, we will provide the training, support and opportunities for you to progress.

    What We Offer:

Competitive basic salary up to £25.50ph based on experience.
Total earning potential of up to £75,000.
    Company van and iPad.
    Annual staff profit-share scheme.
    Paid technical training and qualifications.
A development path for high-performing Engineers.
Opportunities to work with innovative and AI-supported crane technology.
Experience working with blue-chip organisations and domestic and international travel opportunities in the pipeline
A long-term role within an established and growing family business.

If you are an experienced Overhead Crane Engineer with the drive to develop and contribute to an ambitious company’s future, apply today or contact us for an informal and confidential discussion
