How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Van Driver - Trial Member
    Wembley, London

    About Us

Here at Suma, we’ve been doing things a bit differently for over 40 years, not only in our mission to supply everything vegetarian, ethical and sustainable, but also in how we run our successful business.

Suma is a worker co-operative; a business owned and run by nearly 200 members who work here. We’re a group of ordinary people who have built a business on principles of integrity and equality. Suma workers work together collectively to set the direction of the business - there are no shareholders and no traditional ‘bosses’. Everyone at Suma gets paid the same wage, takes personal and equal responsibility, and is flexible to the needs of our business.

We are currently looking for a Van Driver who is eager to be trained in HGV driving, to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, following a 5.5 month probation period.

    The Benefits

    - Salary of £35,859 (£17.24 per hour)
    - Generous holiday entitlement and pension (10.6% contributions when a member)
    - Profit share bonus
    - Staff discount on our stock
    - Overtime can be taken as pay or time off in lieu
    - Access to occupational sick pay
    - Expenses for meals and time away from home
    - Staff car park
    - An equal say in the running of our business
    - Training to gain an HGV Licence

This is a fantastic opportunity for a conscientious, customer-focused driver to join our purpose-led co-operative and play a key role at the frontline of our service.

You’ll discover a role with plenty of day-to-day variety, as well as the chance to build your skills and gain your HGV Licence through our training and development programme.

So, if you want to take the next step in your career, read on and apply today!

    The Role

As a Van Driver, you will play an essential role in supporting the safe and reliable distribution of our goods.

Specifically, you will deliver and collect products for customers, ensuring each drop is completed with excellent customer service, while following all relevant policies, procedures, and driving regulations.

You will also support effective communication with coordinators and debrief teams, ensuring issues are reported promptly so routes run smoothly and vehicles remain roadworthy.

    Additionally, you will:

    - Assist with route planning
    - Manage and complete all required paperwork
    - Maintain accurate run details
    - Complete daily vehicle checks

    About You

To be considered as a Van Driver, you will need:

    - Experience of driving in a safe, legal and conscientious manner
    - Knowledge of vehicle operating and loading procedures and laws
    - Knowledge of the Highway Code and willingness to keep up to date with changes
    - An understanding of Working Time Directive regulations and accurate recording of hours
    - The ability to observe all health and safety rules and guidelines
    - The ability to work long and unsociable hours when required
    - The ability to work effectively as part of a team
    - Excellent time management
    - Excellent communication skills
    - A willingness to undertake HGV training as part of professional development

Please note, this role has a probationary period of 5.5 months.

Other organisations may call this role Delivery Driver, Multi-Drop Driver, Van Delivery Operative, Commercial Driver, or Goods Delivery Driver.

We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of ethnicity or gender, but as members of ethnic minority groups and women are currently under-represented in the co-op, we particularly encourage applications from women and ethnic minority candidates. Appointment will be based on merit alone.
