How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Junior Technical Designer
    Type: Full-time, Permanent
    Location: Guildford
    Salary: £30,000 to £35,000

    Company Overview:
A well-established design and build organisation delivering high-quality projects across a range of sectors. The business operates through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, bringing together design, technical, commercial, preconstruction, and project delivery teams.
The organisation places a strong emphasis on quality, sustainability, compliance, innovation, and professional development, providing team members with opportunities to build their technical expertise and gain valuable project and site experience.

    Role Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Technical Designer to join a collaborative design and build team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career technical designer to develop their skills across a variety of project stages, from initial design development and technical documentation through to construction and practical completion.
Working alongside experienced technical and design professionals, you will support the production of accurate, coordinated, compliant, and buildable technical information. You will help translate design concepts into practical solutions while developing your understanding of technical standards, regulations, construction processes, sustainability, and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in architecture, interior architecture, or a related discipline, together with a willingness to learn and develop within a fast-paced project environment.

    Key Responsibilities:
    * Support project teams throughout the design and delivery process, taking ownership of assigned tasks and ensuring items are completed accurately and on time.
    * Assist with the production of technical design documentation, from early-stage schematics and sketches through to construction documentation.
    * Help translate conceptual designs into detailed, practical, and buildable solutions while maintaining design intent, cost, compliance, and programme requirements.
    * Assist with the preparation and development of technical drawing packages, specifications, schedules, and associated documentation.
    * Support coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, public health, and other disciplines.
    * Assist in the development and coordination of Revit models, CAD drawings, PDFs, and other technical information.
    * Review reference information, site documentation, and project materials to support design accuracy.
    * Assist with quality assurance and quality control processes and help identify potential technical or design risks.
    * Work collaboratively with preconstruction, commercial, project management, site teams, consultants, clients, and other stakeholders.
    * Assist with maintaining drawing files, document sets, naming conventions, and project information in line with company standards.
    * Develop knowledge of relevant regulations, technical standards, Building Regulations, and CDM requirements.
    * Assist with statutory applications and compliance-related processes.
    * Provide technical information and documentation to support site teams during construction.
    * Attend and shadow site visits, internal meetings, and technical coordination reviews to develop practical construction knowledge.
    * Assist with the preparation of as-built/as-record drawings and associated documentation.

    About You:
    * Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related discipline.
    * 1-2 years of experience in a technical design, architectural, interior design, or drafting environment, including relevant internship experience.
    * Working knowledge of Revit, BIM coordination tools, AutoCAD, and other relevant design software.
    * Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical documentation.
    * Good verbal and visual communication skills.
    * Strong problem-solving abilities and an interest in finding practical technical solutions.
    * A genuine willingness to learn technical standards, regulations, construction processes, and industry best practices.
    * Ability to follow direction while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.
    * Comfortable working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team.
    * Able to adapt positively to changing project requirements, feedback, and priorities.

    What's in it for you?
    * The opportunity to develop your technical design career within an established design and build environment.
    * Exposure to projects across multiple stages, from design development through to construction and completion.
    * Practical experience working alongside experienced technical, design, project, and site professionals.
    * Opportunities to develop your knowledge of Revit, BIM, technical documentation, construction, compliance, and coordination.
    * A collaborative environment where learning, quality, sustainability, and professional development are encouraged.
    * The opportunity to build a strong technical foundation and progress your career within the design and construction industry.
