We are recruiting for experienced HGV Class 2 Drivers to join a busy Waste Services operation based in Coventry.
This is a hands-on driving role working as part of a crew delivering essential waste and recycling services across the city.
A Class 2 / Category C licence is essential for this position. The supporting job specification also confirms that drivers must be able to operate LGV Class C vehicles and have previous LGV driving experience.
## The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Driving HGV Class 2 waste collection vehicles
Carrying out daily vehicle safety and maintenance checks
Reporting vehicle defects promptly
Operating vehicle controls and equipment safely
Working alongside and supporting the collection crew
Completing required paperwork and electronic records
Following allocated routes and daily schedules
Ensuring daily collection targets are completed
Reporting collection issues or problems with bins
Communicating with the depot throughout the working day
Dealing professionally and courteously with members of the public
Carrying out manual duties when required
Following all health and safety procedures
The role involves responsibility for both the vehicle and crew, including daily vehicle inspections, safe operation and supporting crew activities when not driving.
## What You'll Need
You must have:
HGV Class 2 / Category C driving licence
Previous LGV/HGV driving experience
Good knowledge of vehicle safety and daily checks
Ability to undertake manual work
Good communication skills
A reliable approach to attendance and timekeeping
Ability to deal with members of the public professionally
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Your own safety boots – all other PPE will be provided
The Council's person specification specifically requires knowledge of LGV vehicles, relevant road transport legislation and the ability to undertake manual handling of different types of waste containers.
## Hours & Rota
You'll work 37 hours per week across 4 or 5 days, Monday/Tuesday to Friday depending on the rota.
There are four working schedules, with your rota confirmed directly once you start.
Earliest start: normally 7:00am, although this may move to 6:00am depending on weather conditions.
There is also 45 minutes' overtime per day for vehicle checks.
