How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Contract: 14 months
Arrangement: Hybrid, typically 3 days per week in the office

Are you a Chartered Senior Geotechnical Engineer with strong design experience across foundations, highways and infrastructure projects?

We're looking to speak with experienced Geotechnical Engineers to join an established infrastructure team on a 14-month contract, supporting a varied portfolio of local authority, highways and asset management schemes.

The role will be heavily focused on geotechnical engineering and design, with particular emphasis on foundation design, ground engineering solutions and technically complex infrastructure projects. You will be involved in developing and reviewing engineered solutions across a range of asset management frameworks, including work associated with Transport Scotland.

Experience within highways would be particularly beneficial, alongside practical knowledge of soil nailing, ground reinforcement techniques and heavily reinforced geotechnical solutions.

As a senior member of the team, you will also provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers, including regular check-ins, design reviews and mentoring. The position is predominantly design focused, with site attendance not considered essential and client interaction generally taking place through virtual meetings.

The majority of the team is based in Glasgow, although candidates working from offices in York, Birmingham, Manchester or Belfast can also be considered. Strong candidates based further south are also welcomed where the hybrid working arrangement can be accommodated.

    Key Responsibilities

·Deliver geotechnical engineering and design across highways, infrastructure and asset management projects.
·Undertake foundation design and develop technically appropriate geotechnical solutions.
·Support local authority schemes and wider infrastructure programmes.
·Develop and review solutions involving soil nailing, ground reinforcement and heavily reinforced ground engineering techniques.
·Undertake geotechnical analysis, calculations and technical reviews.
·Contribute to asset management frameworks requiring complex and highly engineered solutions.
·Prepare and review technical design information, reports, calculations and supporting documentation.
·Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers.
·Undertake regular check-ins, design reviews and mentoring of less experienced team members.
·Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project stakeholders.
·Attend virtual client and project meetings as required.
·Support technical assurance and quality across geotechnical project delivery.
·Use relevant geotechnical design and analysis software as appropriate to individual projects.

    About You

    ·Chartered Civil Engineer.
    ·Senior-level experience within geotechnical engineering.
·Strong geotechnical design capability, particularly in foundation design.
·Previous experience delivering infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
·Highways experience would be highly beneficial.
·Experience with soil nailing and ground reinforcement techniques.
·Understanding of heavily reinforced and complex geotechnical solutions.
·Confident undertaking technical reviews and providing engineering guidance.
·Previous experience mentoring, supporting or reviewing the work of junior engineers.
·Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
·Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project environment.
·Experience with Transport Scotland, local authorities or similar infrastructure clients would be advantageous.
·Experience using Slope/W, SEEP/W, PLAXIS 2D/3D and AutoCAD would be desirable.
