How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Start: 6 September 2026
    2 Positions Available
Working Pattern: Fully onsite – no remote working

We are recruiting for two experienced Deputy Managers to join Children’s Residential Services in Coventry.

These are interim positions supporting established residential homes for children and young people with emotional, behavioural, mental health and complex needs.

The roles would suit experienced children's residential professionals who are confident providing leadership from day one and supporting a Registered Manager with the safe and effective running of a home.

    ### The Roles

    There are two opportunities available:

Emergency Placement Home – providing short-term emergency placements for children and young people, typically presenting with mental health, emotional and behavioural needs.

Long-Term Residential Home – a small two-bed home providing longer-term placements for young people with emotional and complex needs.
The duties and working arrangements are broadly the same across both services.

    ### Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will:

Support the day-to-day operational management of the home

Coordinate staff rotas and ensure appropriate staffing levels

Provide supervision, coaching and support to residential staff

    Support staff development and performance

Undertake quality assurance and audit activities

Review paperwork and children's case records

Produce reports and maintain accurate documentation

    Attend and lead meetings

Build positive relationships with children and young people

Work effectively with families, external professionals and partner agencies

Support regulatory compliance within the home

Assist with Ofsted requirements and inspections

    Maintain and update regulatory documentation

Support the Registered Manager in maintaining high standards of care

Provide leadership and operational oversight when the Registered Manager is unavailable
Each home has approximately 13 residential care staff, with management responsibilities shared between the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager.

    ### Essential Requirements

    Applicants must have:

Significant experience working within children's residential care
Minimum Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Residential Childcare
Previous experience managing or supervising staff within a residential setting
Strong knowledge of children's residential care practice
Ability to step into an interim position and hit the ground running
    Strong leadership and relationship-building skills
Confidence working with children and young people with complex needs
Ability to work effectively with external professionals and partner agencies
Willingness to undertake shift, weekend and on-call responsibilities
Ability to meet the required Enhanced DBS and Schedule 2 compliance checks

A driving licence would be beneficial but is not essential.

    ### Working Pattern

This is a fully onsite position. Standard hours will generally be around 9am–5pm, although flexibility is essential due to the nature of residential care.

The Deputy Manager will be required to undertake shift work, approximately one weekend per month and on-call duties. There may be occasions when you are required to attend the home outside normal working hours in response to an urgent situation.

    ### Pay & Additional Payments

Standard rate: £20.29 per hour PAYE
    Weekend enhancement: Additional 10%

    ### Contract

These positions are being recruited on an interim basis due to permanent vacancies within the service. The initial requirement is expected to be approximately
3–6 months. Although, could become permanent for the right candidates.
