How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.

    HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruiter within the Fire & Security, Power & Propulsion & Shipbuilding Sectors – We have a number of permanent and contract vacancies for multiple businesses across the UK and overseas.

    The below job description will outline this position of: Senior FFE Service Technician.

    Typically, this person will be an experienced marine fire-fighting and fire suppression technician with a strong background in the inspection, testing, servicing, maintenance, commissioning and repair of marine fire-fighting equipment and fixed fire suppression systems. The successful candidate will be required to work onboard commercial vessels, offshore installations, marine facilities and shipyards, ensuring all work is completed to relevant manufacturer, SOLAS, IMO and classification society requirements.

    Duties and responsibilities of the Senior FFE Service Technician will be:

    • Service, inspect, test, commission and repair marine fixed fire suppression systems.
    • Work on CO₂, FM-200, Novec 1230, water mist, foam, wet and dry chemical and galley suppression systems.
    • Carry out annual, intermediate and periodic inspections in accordance with SOLAS, IMO, classification society and manufacturer requirements.
    • Conduct cylinder weighing, pressure testing, hydrostatic testing arrangements and system integrity checks.
    • Diagnose faults and undertake corrective maintenance and repair activities.
    • Complete commissioning activities for newly installed fire suppression systems.
    • Service and inspect portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses, nozzles, breathing apparatus, EEBDs and gas detection equipment.
    • Inspect and maintain relevant life-saving appliances including lifejackets and immersion suits.
    • Complete accurate service reports, inspection records, certificates and deficiency reports.
    • Ensure all work complies with SOLAS, IMO Codes and Circulars, Flag State requirements and Classification Society Rules.
    • Assist with internal and external audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain calibration records, equipment traceability and accurate service documentation.
    • Carry out risk assessments and dynamic risk assessments prior to commencing work.
    • Comply with all company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, including ISO 45001 requirements.

    Qualifications and requirements for the Senior FFE Service Technician:

    • Proven experience servicing marine fire suppression systems.
    • Strong knowledge of SOLAS and marine safety regulations.
    • Good understanding of fixed gaseous fire suppression systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and system documentation.
    • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
    • Excellent report-writing and documentation skills.
    • Full UK Driving Licence.
    • Ability and willingness to travel and work onboard vessels, offshore facilities and within shipyards.
    • Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Marine Engineering or Fire Safety qualification.
    • Fire Suppression System Service Certification or equivalent industry experience.
    • Previous marine or offshore experience is desirable.
    • IFEDA qualification would be advantageous.
    • Relevant marine classification approvals would be advantageous.
    • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent would be beneficial.
    • First Aid at Work qualification would be beneficial.

    Working Hours & Package:

    • Permanent, full-time position.
    • Basic salary of £36,500 – £39,000 depending on experience.
    • Potential earnings of approximately £55,000 – £60,000 through overtime and allowances.
    • Company vehicle provided.
