How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Schools across Balham are preparing for September and looking for academically strong graduates to join them as Graduate Teaching Assistants for the full academic year. JobsinED is recruiting graduates who want substantial experience working with children before progressing into teaching or another education-related profession. You could be a recent graduate exploring your options or someone who already knows that working with young people is where your future lies. Previous experience is useful, but your academic background, attitude and ability to connect with pupils matter just as much.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will spend the year learning how successful classrooms and schools work from the inside. You’ll support pupils directly, observe experienced teachers and gradually develop your own confidence when explaining concepts, managing interactions and responding to different needs. For aspiring teachers, educational psychologists and graduates considering SEND, speech and language or child development, it is difficult to replicate this level of sustained experience elsewhere.

    Key Highlights

    * Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunities across Balham

    * Earn £95–£110 per day, depending on experience

    * September 2026 start with roles running through the academic year

    * Access full-time, long-term positions with schools across the local area

    * Develop practical experience before teacher training or further professional study

    * Benefit from opportunities suited to academically accomplished graduates

    * Secure a term-time position through to July 2027

    What You'll Be Doing

    * Support pupils with their learning during lessons and structured activities

    * Lead targeted one-to-one and small-group sessions under teacher guidance

    * Explain concepts clearly when pupils need additional help or encouragement

    * Prepare resources that enable teachers to deliver effective lessons

    * Encourage good learning habits, confidence and increasing independence

    * Observe experienced practitioners and apply what you learn to your own work with pupils

Ideal Candidate for Schools in Balham

    * Graduated with a strong degree, with a First or 2:1 preferred

    * Achieved a consistently good academic record through GCSEs and A Levels

    * Considering teaching, educational psychology, SEND or another career involving children

    * Brings intelligence, enthusiasm and the maturity needed to work responsibly with young people

    * Offers previous school, tutoring, mentoring, coaching or youth experience where possible, although this is not essential

    * Commits to working full-time from September for the academic year

    Why Join Schools Across Balham?

    * Experience daily school life before committing to teacher training

    * Strengthen future PGCE, teacher training and postgraduate applications with sustained classroom evidence

    * Discover how different pupils learn and how skilled educators adapt their approach

    * Build professional relationships with teachers who can support your development throughout the year

    * Work in a popular South London location with straightforward connections from Clapham, Streatham and Tooting

    * Leave the year with substantially more evidence of your ability to work successfully with children
