How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Location: Sheffield and surrounding area – Field Based
    Reporting to: Redditch Service Team

Looking for a field-based engineering role with more structure to your day?

We’re looking for a Routine Maintenance Engineer to support customers across the Sheffield area, carrying out planned servicing and preventative maintenance on Komatsu construction equipment.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in plant, construction machinery or mechanical maintenance who enjoys working independently, visiting customer sites and delivering a reliable, high-quality service.

Rather than focusing on reactive breakdowns, this role is centred around scheduled servicing, maintenance and machine inspections, helping keep our customers’ equipment running safely and efficiently.

    Who are McHale Komatsu?

McHale Komatsu is one of the UK’s leading distributors of construction equipment, supplying and supporting an extensive range of Komatsu machinery and technology.

Our engineers are a huge part of what we do. We’re committed to developing our people and giving them the training, tools and support they need to build long-term careers.

If you enjoy working independently while still being part of an experienced wider service team, we’d love to hear from you.

    What will you be doing?

As a Routine Maintenance Engineer, you’ll visit customer sites across the Sheffield area to carry out scheduled maintenance on Komatsu machinery.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and routine servicing

Completing scheduled Field Campaigns and KDPF replacements

    Carrying out post-service walk-around inspections

Identifying additional repairs, maintenance or parts requirements

Completing job sheets, RAMS and relevant service documentation

Carrying out site-specific risk assessments before starting work

Following customer site procedures and safe working practices

Keeping customers and the service team updated on progress

Completing all planned work safely, efficiently and to a high standard

Providing a professional and reliable service to customers

    What are we looking for?

You don’t need to be a breakdown or diagnostics specialist. We’re looking for someone with a strong mechanical background who is confident carrying out servicing and routine maintenance in the field.

    You’ll have:

Experience with heavy plant, construction, agricultural or similar machinery

Experience carrying out servicing, maintenance or mechanical repairs

NVQ Level 2 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent

    Full UK driving licence

    Good practical and mechanical skills

    Strong attention to detail

Good communication and customer service skills

Ability to work independently and manage your own workload

Good understanding of health and safety requirements

    Confidence working on customer sites

The following would be beneficial but are not essential:

    SPA and/or CSCS certification

IOSH or similar health and safety training

    IPAF training

    What can we offer you?

    Competitive salary package

Company van with personal use benefit

Up to 27 days’ holiday, linked to length of service

    Bank holidays plus Christmas shutdown

    Company pension scheme

    Employee Assistance Programme

    Death in service benefit

    Ongoing technical training and development

    Career development and progression opportunities

Support from an experienced service and technical team

    Interested?

If you’re looking for a field-based engineering role focused on planned servicing and preventative maintenance, and you take pride in keeping machinery running at its best, we’d love to hear from you.
