How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Quality Controller

    Department: Quality / Manufacturing
    Reports To: Production Manager
    Direct Reports: Small team of Quality Inspectors
    Hours: 37.5 hours per week – Mon–Thurs 08:15–16:45, Fri 08:00–14:00 (negotiable within core hours)
    Salary: £38,000–£42,000 DOE

    The Role

    We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Controller to lead day-to-day quality inspection activities and ensure products meet customer, company and manufacturing requirements.

    As Quality Controller, you will have strong experience of ISO 9001 and IMS/quality management systems, managing non-conformances and corrective actions, and producing and implementing quality procedures and documentation. You will also be confident interpreting detailed engineering drawings and leading a small team of Quality Inspectors.

    Key Responsibilities

    As our Quality Controller, you will:

    Manage and oversee day-to-day quality control and inspection activities.
    Lead, support and coordinate a small team of Quality Inspectors, allocating work effectively and ensuring inspections are completed on time.
    Inspect components, assemblies and finished products against engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
    Accurately interpret detailed engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and technical requirements.
    Ensure inspection equipment and measurement processes are controlled and maintained.
    Identify, investigate and manage non-conformances, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
    Produce, maintain and implement quality procedures, inspection plans, work instructions and other quality documentation.
    Train and coach production and inspection personnel on quality procedures and requirements.
    Maintain accurate quality records and support internal and external audits.
    Monitor quality performance, identify recurring issues and drive continuous improvement.
    Work closely with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and maintain high standards.
    Ensure customer-specific quality requirements are understood and consistently applied.
    Promote a strong quality culture across the manufacturing process.

    Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

    Proven experience as a Quality Controller, Quality Inspector, Quality Engineer or in a similar quality-focused role within engineering or manufacturing.
    Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and IMS/quality management systems.
    Experience managing non-conformances, root cause investigations and corrective actions.
    Ability to produce, implement and maintain quality documentation and procedures.
    Experience training employees on quality requirements and processes.
    Strong ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, tolerances and technical specifications.
    Good knowledge of dimensional inspection and measurement techniques.
    Previous experience supervising or coordinating a small team.
    Strong problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
    Ability to work collaboratively while confidently maintaining quality standards.

    Desirable

    Formal qualification or training in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline.
    Internal Auditor qualification or audit experience.
    Experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
    Experience in precision engineering, fabrication, machining or a similar manufacturing environment.
    Knowledge of relevant industry standards and customer quality requirements.

    Key Skills & Attributes

    The successful Quality Controller will be practical, hands-on and highly organised, with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving. You will be confident making quality decisions, challenging poor standards where necessary and working effectively under pressure.

    You will be an approachable and positive team leader, capable of developing inspectors and building strong relationships across production and engineering. A proactive approach to continuous improvement and a genuine commitment to high quality and customer satisfaction are essential.
