How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Coventry – Hybrid, 3 days working from home
    Pay: £17.47 per hour PAYE
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm
    Start: 1 September 2026
    Contract: Temporary assignment
    IR35: Inside IR35

    ## The Role

    We are recruiting for an experienced Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Engineer to provide specialist engineering support across a programme of highway and transport improvement schemes.
    You will manage the preparation, consultation, processing and implementation of Traffic Regulation Orders, ensuring statutory requirements are met and schemes progress within programme and funding deadlines.
    This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous local authority, highways or traffic management experience and a strong working knowledge of TRO legislation and processes.

    ## Key Responsibilities

    Manage Traffic Regulation Orders from initial preparation through to implementation.

    Prepare TRO schedules, notices, statements of reasons and supporting documentation.

    Progress Orders relating to speed limits, parking controls, waiting/loading restrictions, one-way systems, prohibited turns, weight restrictions and other movement restrictions.

    Coordinate statutory consultation, public consultation and formal advertisement.

    Review and respond to objections and representations.

    Liaise with Legal Services to progress Orders through sealing and implementation.

    Work closely with project managers, highway engineers and scheme designers.

    Provide technical advice on proposed traffic management measures and statutory requirements.

    Prepare reports, briefing notes and recommendations for senior stakeholders.

    Liaise with elected members, emergency services, transport operators, businesses, developers and members of the public.

    Maintain accurate records and provide progress and programme reporting.
    ## Essential Experience

    We are particularly interested in candidates who have:

    Previous experience preparing and delivering Traffic Regulation Orders, ideally within a local authority or highways environment.
    Strong knowledge of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and associated traffic management legislation.
    Experience managing statutory and public consultation processes.
    Experience working on highway or transport schemes.
    Ability to interpret legislation and apply it to practical traffic management schemes.
    Strong stakeholder management, communication and organisational skills.
    Ability to manage multiple TROs and work to strict programme deadlines.

    Experience using GIS, CAD or TRO management systems would also be beneficial.
    This role would suit an experienced TRO Engineer, Traffic Engineer, Traffic Management Engineer, Highways Engineer or Traffic Regulation Order Officer with hands-on experience of the statutory TRO process
