How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: CNC Machine Operative
    Reporting To: Section Supervisor
    Department: Machine Shop / Production

    Working Hours:

    Day shift £13.66p/h (Mon - Thurs 7.00am – 4.00pm, Friday 7.00am -12.00pm)

    Night shift £15.04p/h (Mon - Thurs 4.00pm -2.30am)

    Job Purpose

    To manufacture high-quality automotive components by executing precision machining operations in strict accordance with engineering guidelines, supervisor directives, and health and safety legislation. The successful candidate will take full ownership of component quality, actively report non-conformities, and maintain the flexibility required to support diverse operational needs across the shop floor.

    Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

    * Machining Operations: Competently operate CNC lathes and/or VMC milling centres to execute high-precision manufacturing processes.

    * Performance Monitoring: Run machinery strictly in line with programmed speeds and feeds, continuously tracking performance to optimize efficiency.

    * Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough in-cycle inspections of manufactured components using engineering measuring tools (micrometers, verniers) and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) reports.

    * Resource Utilisation: Engage in multi-manning operations when machine configurations and product profiles permit, maximizing operational throughput and resource utility.

    * Compliance & Records: Ensure all production logs and compliance paperwork are completed accurately and traceably in full alignment with ISO9001 standards.

    * Workplace Management (5S): Proactively maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by executing ongoing 5S principles (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Systemise, Sustain).

    * Shift Handovers: Deliver professional, clear, and comprehensive operational updates to the oncoming machinist or supervisor during shift changes.

    * Teamwork & Flexibility: Work collaboratively within a highly focused manufacturing team and willingly undertake reasonable additional duties as requested by supervisors or the Production Manager.

    Experience

    * Proven background working in an environment that demands strict attention to detail and precision.

    * Previous experience within the automotive sector or a similar high-volume batch control industry.

    * Practical, hands-on experience using engineering measuring equipment.

    * Familiarity or operational experience with FANUC and Heidenhain control systems.

    * A strong foundational background in engineering is highly preferred.

    Qualifications & Skills

    * Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.

    * Strong technical reading capabilities, numerical proficiency, and communication skills.

    * A formal Mechanical Engineering qualification or a completed manufacturing apprenticeship is highly preferred.

    Personal Characteristics & Flexibility

    * Strong desire and aptitude to learn the operation of Hardinge Bridgeport milling centres and/or Hardinge lathes.

    * A sharp eye for detail coupled with the high level of sustained concentration required for precision manufacturing.

    * Excellent interpersonal skills to foster cohesive, productive team dynamics within the Machine Shop.

    * A proactive mindset with a strong commitment to making a positive, long-term contribution to the company.

    * Full operational flexibility to temporarily support other production sections to accommodate changing business needs.

    * Willingness and availability to work overtime hours when necessitated by production schedules
