How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering organisation in the Glasgow area for an experienced Hydraulic Fitter / Hydraulic Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business specialising in hydraulic systems, supporting a diverse range of marine, industrial and engineering projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in hydraulic systems, mechanical fitting, and ideally the manufacture and assembly of hydraulic hose assemblies. A key part of this role will involve working on hydraulic cylinders/rams, hydraulic pumps and motors, and hydraulic power units (HPUs) across maintenance, overhaul and repair activities. The role offers varied and hands-on work, excellent overtime opportunities, and long-term career development within a respected engineering organisation.

The position is primarily based in Glasgow; however, there may be occasional travel and short periods of working away on projects along the South Coast, typically involving only a few nights away at a time.

Due to the nature of some projects, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.

    Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain and repair hydraulic systems and components to industry and customer standards.
Manufacture, assemble and test hydraulic hose assemblies and related hydraulic equipment.
Carry out hydraulic fault finding, diagnostics, root cause analysis and repairs.
Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Assemble, overhaul and refurbish hydraulic cylinders/rams, pumps, motors, valves and related components.
Carry out maintenance, servicing and repair of hydraulic power units (HPUs).
Assist with the testing, commissioning and validation of hydraulic systems, HPUs and associated equipment.
Support marine, industrial and engineering maintenance, installation and repair activities.
Work closely with engineering and project teams to deliver high-quality solutions for customers.
Complete maintenance records, job reports and associated documentation.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures.

    Requirements

Proven experience as a Hydraulic Fitter, Hydraulic Engineer, Mechanical Fitter or similar engineering role.
Strong hands-on experience working with hydraulic systems and components.
Proven experience maintaining, repairing and overhauling hydraulic cylinders/rams, pumps, motors and hydraulic power units (HPUs).
Experience manufacturing and assembling hydraulic hose assemblies.
Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic faults effectively across complete hydraulic systems.
Good understanding of hydraulic drawings, schematics and engineering documentation.
Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
    Full UK Driving Licence.
Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Willingness to travel occasionally and work away from home for short periods when required.

    Desirable

    Marine engineering experience.
Industrial, manufacturing or heavy engineering background.
Experience commissioning hydraulic systems and equipment.
    Hydraulic qualifications or manufacturer training.
Experience working within hydraulic hose assembly manufacturing or fluid power environments.

    Working Hours

    Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 16:30
    Friday: 08:00 - 13:30

    Overtime

Monday to Saturday: Time and a Half (1.5x)
    Sunday: Double Time (2x)
Overtime paid following completion of standard contracted hours.

    Package

Competitive salary, negotiable depending on experience and expertise.
    Excellent overtime earning potential.
Opportunity to work on a varied range of hydraulic, marine and industrial engineering projects.
    Ongoing training and professional development.
Long-term career progression within a growing engineering organisation.
Company-supported travel and accommodation for any required working away assignments.

    About You

You will be a practical, hands-on engineer with strong hydraulic experience and a proactive approach to problem solving. Previous experience working on hydraulic cylinders/rams, pumps, motors and hydraulic power units (HPUs) would be advantageous. Candidates from marine, industrial, manufacturing, heavy engineering or fluid power environments are encouraged to apply
