Are you a Psychology graduate or undergraduate aspiring to become an Aspiring Educational Psychologist? Are you looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience working with children with additional needs before progressing into postgraduate study or a career within psychology?

A welcoming and inclusive school in Chippenham, Wiltshire is seeking a passionate and dedicated Aspiring Educational Psychologist to join their team from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Aspiring Educational Psychologist to gain practical experience within an educational setting while developing a strong understanding of child development, SEND, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and barriers to learning.

You will work closely with children with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties and other special educational needs. As an Aspiring Educational Psychologist, you will provide targeted support to help children develop their confidence, emotional regulation, communication, social skills and engagement with learning.

The Role

As an Aspiring Educational Psychologist, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children with a range of SEND and additional needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children and provide consistent emotional and pastoral support.
Support children to develop emotional regulation, resilience, communication, social and coping strategies.
Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
Help identify and reduce barriers that may affect a child's learning, development, wellbeing and participation.
Support children in developing their independence, confidence and self-esteem.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals to ensure children receive appropriate support.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
Develop your understanding of how psychological principles can be applied within education.

About You

We are looking for an Aspiring Educational Psychologist who has:

A degree or undergraduate study in Psychology or a closely related subject.
A genuine interest in Educational Psychology, child development and Special Educational Needs.
A strong understanding of, or willingness to learn about, children's emotional, social and educational development.
A patient, compassionate and resilient approach when supporting children with additional needs.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to remain calm, consistent and supportive when working with children who may display challenging behaviour.
A reflective approach and a genuine desire to understand the individual needs of each child.
Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly within education, SEND, care or support settings, is beneficial but not essential.
