How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Technical Author
    Location: Cheshire
Salary: Up to £50,000 + Excellent Benefits (including Flexitime)
    Position: Full-Time, Permanent
    The Role
Are you a self-driven Technical Author ready to step up and take ownership of an elite documentation suite? We are searching for an architect of clarity to act as the definitive bridge between complex engineering and practical execution. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will lead the charge in producing, maintaining, and modernizing critical technical publications and comprehensive operation manuals. If you thrive on autonomy and love turning sophisticated technical data into polished, high-quality documentation, this is your canvas.
    Your Core Impact
    * Craft the Narrative: Produce, edit and perfect deep-dive operating instructions, maintenance procedures, service schedules, spares lists and engaging marketing leaflets.
    * Visualize the Complex: Bring data to life by generating high-quality technical illustrations and visual diagrams directly from 3D CAD models.
    * Guard the Quality: Act as the final line of defence for precision, thoroughly proofreading all materials to ensure they surpass rigorous business and industry standards.
    * Synthesize Intelligence: Collate, cross-reference, and verify complex technical data from internal engineering squads and external expert sources.
    * Govern the System: Take complete control of our document management system to maintain flawless version control, document tracking, and revision histories.
What You Bring to the Team
    * The Foundation: A degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or an equivalent track record of outstanding professional experience in a technical environment as a Technical Author or similar.
    * The Expertise: Proven experience as a technical author or technical writer in an engineering landscape, with a natural talent for making the highly complex remarkably easy to understand.
    * The Toolkit: High proficiency with MS Word, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Creative Cloud, and SolidWorks Composer (or equivalent CAD illustration platforms).
    * The Framework: Impeccable command of written and verbal English, paired with practical familiarity with ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English.
    * The Drive: A highly self-motivated work ethic that excels under minimal supervision, balanced with the communication skills needed to partner with cross-functional engineering teams.
What is in It for You?
    * A competitive salary of up to £50,000 tailored to your experience level.
    * True control over your schedule via excellent benefits, including genuine flexitime.
    * Total autonomy over your workflow as the sole technical author, giving you the freedom to set standards and make a measurable impact.
