How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Electrical Controls – Northamptonshire – £55-65k

Samuel Frank is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing, family-owned engineering business based in Northamptonshire.

This is a newly created Senior Electrical Design Engineer position with a clear route into engineering leadership as the department grows.

The successful Senior Electrical Design Engineer will initially be heavily geared towards design duties, with around 85-90% of the role focused on electrical design. Longer term, the plan is to build an engineering team around this person, giving them increasing responsibility for people, processes and the overall direction of the department.

Key aspects of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer role include:

    * Predominantly hands-on electrical design initially

    * Electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts

    * Working closely with manufacturing to ensure designs translate effectively onto the shop floor

    * Responsibility for engineering drawings, BOMs and technical documentation

    * Working closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing, R&D, the COO and CEO

    * Opportunity to introduce and improve engineering processes and standards

    * Longer-term responsibility for building and developing an engineering team

    * Genuine progression towards Lead Engineer/Engineering Manager and potentially Head of Engineering as the business continues to grow

The successful Senior Electrical Design Engineer is likely to have:

    * HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering

    * Strong electrical controls design experience

    * Experience designing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts

    * A background within industrial automation, control systems, machinery, material handling, food & beverage, water, HVAC or a similar engineering environment

    * SolidWorks Electrical experience would be advantageous but isn’t essential

    * Engineers using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical will be considered and training on SolidWorks Electrical can be provided

    * Previous experience mentoring, supervising or supporting other engineers would be useful

    * A practical understanding of how electrical designs move from engineering into manufacture

    * PLC knowledge would be advantageous but isn’t essential

Personality is also important. This role will work closely with a technically strong CEO, so they’re looking for someone confident in their own engineering ability who is prepared to question decisions, put forward ideas and challenge constructively.

For someone currently working as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who wants to move into engineering management, this is a strong opportunity. You’ll initially remain hands-on with the design work, but the intention is to build the department around you as the business grows.

The role is commutable from the following places; Northampton, Coventry, Daventry, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Banbury and Towcester.
