How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.

    Job Summary

    The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of electrical maintenance activities across our clients site, ensuring the ongoing reliability, integrity, and availability of critical plant assets.  The role provides technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams, delivering planned and reactive maintenance while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance.

    Working within a COMAH-regulated environment, the postholder will undertake fault-finding, inspection, testing, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and safety-critical equipment. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives, contractor management, asset integrity programmes, and project delivery activities, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, industry standards, and statutory requirements.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental and quality standards whilst contributing to the safe and reliable operation of terminal facilities.

    Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Compliance

    Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance across all activities.
    Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with company policies, procedures, permit-to-work systems, and safe systems of work.
    Carry out electrical isolations and issue isolation certificates in line with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
    Review and contribute to Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and other safety documentation.
    Participate in HAZOP studies, safety audits, safety observation programmes, and incident investigations as required.
    Support emergency response activities in accordance with the Terminal Emergency Response Plan.
    Ensure compliance with site security requirements and company management systems.
    Complete all mandatory training and competency requirements within agreed timescales. Maintenance & Asset Integrity
    Deliver planned, preventative, and corrective electrical maintenance activities to maximise plant availability and reliability.
    Execute inspection, testing, and maintenance routines on safety-critical and statutory equipment including:
    Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
    Hazardous Area (ATEX) electrical equipment
    Earthing, bonding and lightning protection systems
    RCD systems
    Electric heat tracing systems
    Fixed wiring and distribution boards
    Cause and Effect testing
    Motors, generators and UPS systems
    Fire pump systems
    Lighting systems
    Access control and security systems
    Support Condition Monitoring and Asset Integrity programmes through inspection findings, defect reporting, and corrective action management.
    Ensure maintenance records, inspections, defects, and repair activities are accurately documented within maintenance management systems. Fault Finding & Technical Support
    Provide technical expertise and electrical fault-finding support to maintain optimal plant performance.
    Diagnose and rectify faults associated with:
    MCCs and switchgear
    Electrical distribution systems
    Motors and motor control equipment
    Earth fault conditions
    Hazardous area installations
    Identify and implement practical engineering solutions to improve asset reliability and operational efficiency.
    Develop and maintain engineering and maintenance procedures for new and existing systems. Contractor & Project Support
    Manage and supervise E&I contractors carrying out maintenance and inspection activities on site.
    Ensure contractors operate safely and possess the appropriate competence, certification, and authorisation.
    Coordinate specialist inspection activities including:
    Cathodic protection inspections
    HV systems and transformer inspections
    Breaker testing
    Specialist electrical integrity assessments
    Provide engineering support to project delivery activities, ensuring compliance with project management procedures and engineering standards.
    Support commissioning, testing, and handover activities for new installations and modifications.
    Ensure changes to drawings and technical documentation are correctly marked-up and issued for update. Continuous Improvement
    Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of maintenance procedures, systems, and best practices.
    Monitor and maintain critical spare parts and consumable stock levels.
    Raise, track, and complete actions within the site incident and action tracking systems to agreed timescales.
    Support audit programmes and performance improvement initiatives across the Terminal. Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential
    BTEC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, or completion of a recognised apprenticeship.
    COMPEX Ex01-04 certification.
    Current BS7671 Wiring Regulations qualification (latest edition).
    Minimum 5 years' experience in a petrochemical, chemical, oil & gas, terminal, or other hazardous process industry environment.
    Experience working with hazardous area electrical equipment and safety-critical systems.
    Proven electrical fault-finding and maintenance experience on industrial process plant equipment.
    Strong understanding of electrical safety legislation, isolation procedures, and safe systems of work. Desirable
    Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) awareness.
    High Voltage Awareness.
    IPAF 3A & 3B certification.
    PASMA Mobile Tower certification.
    Working at Height certification.
    Asbestos Awareness training.
    Experience supporting projects, commissioning, and contractor management activities. Key Competencies
