How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Transport Controller / Planner

    Permanent Position

    Salary: £27,000 - £28,000 per annum

    Based in Cannock, Staffordshire

    The Transport Controller / Planner is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and management of UK road freight collections and deliveries, ensuring customer requirements are consistently met while optimising operational efficiency. The role demands excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, strong communication with customers, hauliers, and internal stakeholders, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced transport environment.

    The successful candidate will ensure all transport activities are executed in accordance with company procedures, customer service standards, and regulatory compliance requirements. They will also maintain accurate and up-to-date records across internal systems, contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of the transport function

    Hours: Monday to Friday, 12:00pm - 8:00pm (37.5hr per week) No weekend or Bank Holiday working

    Duties of a Transport Controller / Planner:

    Planning and scheduling UK collections and deliveries
    Liaising with drivers to ensure service commitments are met
    Building strong relationships with transport partners
    Monitor the progress of vehicles, collections and deliveries throughout the day
    React quickly to delays, breakdowns, traffic issues and customer changes by re-planning work where necessary.
    Prioritise urgent and time-critical shipments to maintain service levels
    Ensure efficient utilisation of vehicles, hauliers and transport resources.Experience required for a Transport Controller / Planner:

    Previous experience within UK road freight or transport planning.
    Strong understanding of UK transport operations and logistics.
    Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively.
    High level of organisational and administrative skills.
    Good geographical knowledge of the UK.
    Competent using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
    Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) or other logistics software.
    Strong attention to detail.
    Previous working experience in logistics distribution and supply chain Detail of a Transport Controller / Planner
