Job Description
Reporting to the NPD Manager, the Development / Formulation Chemist will be responsible for developing, improving and commercialising product formulations from initial concept through to full-scale manufacture.
You will take ownership of laboratory trials, formulation development, raw material evaluation, product optimisation and manufacturing scale-up, working closely with teams across Technical, Quality, Regulatory, Production and Commercial.
This role would suit an experienced Formulation Chemist looking for a hands-on position where they can influence new product development, drive innovation and see projects progress from idea through to launch.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, optimise and commercialise new product formulations from concept through to production.
Conduct laboratory trials, stability testing, compatibility testing and product performance evaluations.
Evaluate and select raw materials, ingredients and additives to support product development.
Improve existing formulations to enhance performance, quality and cost effectiveness.
Support product scale-up activities, ensuring successful transfer from laboratory to manufacturing.
Investigate and resolve formulation, manufacturing and raw material challenges.
Develop technical documentation, formulation records, specifications and test reports.
Work closely with Quality, Regulatory, Production, Procurement and Commercial teams.
Research emerging technologies, ingredients and market trends to support innovation.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across product development processes.
Key Requirements
Previous experience within a Formulation Chemist, Development Chemist or R&D Chemist role.
Experience developing and optimising formulations within a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of formulation principles, raw materials and product performance testing.
Experience taking products from initial concept through to commercialisation.
Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up and production troubleshooting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Advantageous Requirements
Experience within chemicals, homecare, personal care, cosmetics or a similar regulated industry.
Knowledge of surfactant chemistry, emulsions, preservatives and speciality additives.
Experience working with stability testing and laboratory evaluation techniques.
Experience supporting NPD projects from development through to launch.

Salary of £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
