How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Commercial Manager

    Whitehaven.| Major Infrastructure Programme

Lead the commercial delivery of one of the UKs most significant infrastructure programmes.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering work on a major long-term programme based at Whitehaven, West Cumbria.

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role on a high-profile, technically complex project where youll influence commercial strategy, lead a talented commercial team and work alongside industry-leading professionals on projects that will shape the UKs critical infrastructure for years to come.

Candidates from across the UK are encouraged to apply. For those who are happy to work away during the week, weekly accommodation and sustenance support is available, making this an excellent opportunity for professionals who are prepared to stay in Cumbria Monday to Friday.

    The Opportunity

Reporting to the Project Commercial Lead, youll take ownership of the commercial management of a major project, ensuring robust commercial governance while driving financial performance, protecting contractual entitlement and supporting successful project delivery.

Youll become a trusted commercial advisor to senior project stakeholders, helping to identify opportunities, manage risk and maximise value throughout the project lifecycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Commercial Manager looking to work on nationally significant infrastructure with genuine long-term career prospects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commercial Leadership
Lead the day-to-day commercial management of a major infrastructure project.
Provide commercial leadership to the project delivery team, ensuring best practice and governance are maintained.
Develop and implement commercial strategies that support successful project delivery.
Provide clear commercial advice to senior management to support key business decisions.
Ensure contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
    Commercial Management & Reporting
Lead monthly commercial reporting including CVRs, cost forecasting, margin reporting and financial performance.
Prepare and manage applications for payment and commercial submissions.
Monitor project expenditure, forecast final accounts and identify opportunities to improve commercial performance.
Deliver accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
    Contract & Supply Chain Management
Administer and manage major construction contracts.
Lead the commercial management of subcontractors from procurement through to final account.
Develop subcontract strategies aligned to project objectives.
Resolve contractual issues and support dispute avoidance where required.
Work collaboratively with procurement teams to secure commercially advantageous packages.
    Risk & Opportunity Management
Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks.
Maximise commercial opportunities across the project.
    Support robust change management processes.
Drive improvements in cash flow, profitability and project performance.
    Leadership
Lead, mentor and develop members of the commercial team.
    Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and share lessons learned across the wider business.
    About You

Youll be an experienced Commercial professional who enjoys working in complex project environments and thrives on balancing commercial performance with collaborative project delivery.

    Essential

Significant experience managing commercial functions on large, complex infrastructure or construction projects.
Strong knowledge of NEC3, NEC4, JCT or similar forms of contract.
Proven experience in cost management, forecasting, commercial reporting and financial governance.
Experience managing subcontract procurement and commercial administration.
Strong leadership skills with experience developing and managing commercial teams.
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
Commercially astute with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Eligible to obtain, or already hold, the appropriate security clearance.

Experience within nuclear, defence, utilities, rail, energy or other highly regulated sectors.
Chartered status (RICS, CIOB or equivalent), or working towards professional accreditation.
Experience working on major programmes valued at £100m+.
    Whats on Offer?

Alongside the opportunity to work on one of the UKs most significant infrastructure programmes, youll benefit from an excellent overall package including:

    Competitive salary
    Annual performance bonus
    Company car or car allowance
    Private medical insurance
    Generous pension contribution
Enhanced holiday entitlement with the option to purchase additional leave
