How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a major UK highways project in east London.

    This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role on a high-profile scheme, driving Health, Safety and Wellbeing performance across complex utilities and enabling works packages.

    The Role

    As Health & Safety Manager, you will provide expert HSEQ leadership across site operations, ensuring compliance, promoting a positive safety culture and supporting project teams in delivering works safely and efficiently.

    You will work closely with operational teams, clients, statutory undertakers, subcontractors and key stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and promote a proactive Health & Safety culture across the project.

    Provide expert advice and support to project delivery teams on all HSEQ matters.

    Ensure compliance with company procedures, legislation and client requirements.

    Conduct site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.

    Investigate incidents, identify root causes and drive corrective actions.

    Develop and review Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Systems of Work.

    Liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors and delivery teams.

    Support project leadership in achieving safety, environmental and operational objectives.

    Monitor, analyse and report on HSEQ performance.

    Drive continual improvement initiatives and best practice across the project.

    Requirements

    Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager within the civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure sectors.

    Essential experience working on utilities projects or utility diversion packages.

    Demonstrable experience liaising with clients, stakeholders, statutory undertakers and subcontractors.

    NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).

    Chartered Membership of IOSH or working towards chartership is desirable.

    Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK Health & Safety legislation.

    Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

    Experience working on major infrastructure projects for a Tier 1 contractor is highly desirable
