How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Join a growing, specialist valve overhaul services company in Middlesbrough at a pivotal stage in its development. This is a permanent opportunity to take ownership of a busy workshop environment within a 6-year-old business that is expanding due to an ever-growing order book. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of services to a wide range of industrial clients.

    About the Role:
As Workshop Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day operations in a valve overhaul workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to exacting quality standards. You will lead and develop the workshop team, coordinate workloads, and act as the key point of contact between the workshop and management. Your contribution will directly support the company’s growth by driving productivity, safety, and continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Supervise daily workshop activities, allocating tasks and managing workflows to meet production targets and customer deadlines.

    * Oversee relief valve and general valve overhaul, ensuring all work is completed to required technical and quality standards.

    * Implement and enforce health and safety procedures, conducting regular checks and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

    * Conduct quality control and inspection of completed work, identifying defects and ensuring corrective actions are taken.

    * Lead and mentor workshop staff, providing on-the-job training, guidance, and performance feedback.

    * Manage inventory and stock levels for tools, parts, and consumables, ensuring availability and accurate records.

    * Plan workforce scheduling, including managing holidays, overtime, and cover to maintain operational continuity.

    * Carry out risk assessments, document incident reports, and support root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

    Key Requirements:

    * Proven supervisory experience within a workshop, engineering, or industrial environment.

    * Hands-on experience with valve overhaul, including relief valves, in a service or repair setting.

    * Strong knowledge of health and safety practices and ability to apply them in a workshop context.

    * Demonstrated experience in quality control and inspection of mechanical or industrial components.

    * Ability to train, mentor, and lead a team, with a track record of developing staff capability.

    * Competence in inventory and stock management within a technical or engineering environment.

    * Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with technicians, management, and customers.

    * Computer literate, able to use basic office software and workshop management systems for reporting and scheduling.

    Desirable Skills:

    * Experience in a valve services or rotating equipment repair company.

    * Familiarity with industry standards and regulations relating to pressure and relief valves.

    * Background in continuous improvement initiatives within a workshop setting.

    * Experience producing technical reports or documentation related to inspections and incidents.

    Qualifications:

    * Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ/City & Guilds in a mechanical or engineering discipline.

    * HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred but not essential).

    * Formal health and safety training or certification (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH) is advantageous.

    * Evidence of supervisory or leadership training is beneficial.
