How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Role

You'll take ownership of complex tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, working closely with senior leadership, commercial teams and operational managers to develop winning bid strategies.

This role offers the opportunity to mentor junior estimators while contributing to the continuous improvement of estimating processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Lead the preparation of major civil engineering tenders.

    *

    Produce detailed First Principles estimates.

    *

    Manage multiple tenders simultaneously.

    *

Coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing exercises.

    *

Review drawings, specifications and contract documentation.

    *

Identify commercial risks and value engineering opportunities.

    *

Prepare tender reports and present submissions to senior management.

    *

Support junior estimators and contribute to team development.

    *

Work collaboratively with operational and commercial teams to secure new business.

    About You

    We're looking for someone with:

    *

Significant estimating experience within Civil Engineering.

    *

Proven experience pricing complex infrastructure projects.

    *

    Strong First Principles estimating capability.

    *

Experience within rail, highways, utilities, power or multidisciplinary infrastructure.

    *

Excellent commercial judgement and analytical skills.

    *

Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.

    *

Ability to lead tenders and manage competing priorities.

    What's on Offer

    *

    Highly competitive salary.

    *

Company car or generous car allowance.

    *

25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service.

    *

    Contributory pension.

    *

    Life assurance.

    *

    Health Cash Plan.

    *

    Employee rewards scheme.

    *

    Professional development and leadership opportunities.

    *

The opportunity to work on major infrastructure frameworks across Scotland.
