How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job Title: Emissions Test Engineer - (phone number removed)

    Location: Coventry

    Role profile

    The Opportunity

This role provides a hands‑on opportunity to support the operation of the Environmental Chassis Emissions Dynamometer at the APRL facility. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, you will engage directly with engineers, academic partners, and third‑party customers to deliver high‑quality test operations across a range of propulsion and emissions programmes.

Reporting to the Test Preparation Engineer, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end execution of chassis dyno testing activities. This includes vehicle check‑in, inspection, preparation, and installation on the dynamometer, ensuring correct positioning, strapping, wheel alignment, and roller engagement. You will ensure vehicle readiness by verifying fuel levels, tyres, pressures, fluids, and calibration status, as well as confirming correct instrumentation setup prior to testing.

You will operate the dyno and drive tests in accordance with required standards, maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and repeatability. Post‑test, you will support safe de‑instrumentation, vehicle removal, and restoration of the dyno cell to a clean and ready state. This role requires a proactive, detail‑oriented individual with a strong practical understanding of vehicle testing and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.

    Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

    * Carry out the end‑to‑end operation of the chassis dynamometer, ensuring all activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in line with defined procedures.

    * Perform vehicle check‑in, inspection, preparation, and check‑out, ensuring readiness for testing, including verification of fuel levels, tyres, pressures, fluids, and calibration status.

    * Prepare and install vehicles on the dynamometer, ensuring correct positioning, strapping, wheel alignment, and roller engagement.

    * Confirm correct instrumentation setup and connections, ensuring data quality and readiness prior to test execution.

    * Execute test cycles on the dyno, driving to required standards and test profiles, while maintaining accuracy, repeatability, and compliance with test requirements.

    * Monitor test conditions and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, taking appropriate action in the event of any deviation or issue.

    * Support post‑test activities, including safe de‑instrumentation, vehicle removal, and restoration of the dyno cell to a clean, safe, and operational state.

    * Maintain the dyno facility in good working order, carrying out routine operational checks and supporting maintenance activities in collaboration with facility and service engineers.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Desirable skill sets

    * Experience in chassis dynamometer or engine test facility operation, including vehicle installation, test execution, and post‑test activities

    * Practical experience with vehicle preparation and instrumentation, including sensor setup, thermocouples, emissions measurement systems, and data acquisition

    * Familiarity with test control and data acquisition tools such as AVL (PUMA, CAMEO), ETAS INCA, or equivalent systems

    * Understanding of emissions testing procedures, including bag emissions systems (e.g. THC, CH₄ measurement), and initial data quality checks

    * Strong hands‑on capability with mechanical systems, including vehicle handling, strapping, and dyno setup

    * Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and compliance with H&S, ISO, and audit requirements

    * Ability to operate within a structured test environment, following defined processes and standards

    * Capability to support troubleshooting of test setups, basic facility issues, and instrumentation faults

    * Good understanding of vehicle systems and powertrain operation in an ICE and/or electrified environment

It is understood that a single individual with a comprehensive understanding of the above is unlikely, the laboratory will work with a number of internal and external parties to develop both the individuals and the whole team capability, with the objective of developing a diverse and dynamic team
